@tokyo 14
Fair few strong earthquakes in the last few days
muikabochi 208
Yep and in different places too.
big-will 7
Noticed that not that I felt them.
7-11 2
did anyone see those large fissures that have appeared on the roads around Mt Fuji??!! They are huge....although scientists are saying that it isn't down to magma movement, but melting snow and ice washing away the soil under the tar mac.....still pretty impressive/dangerous cracks in the earth Whats that about Tubby? 1 4
The same place that has the big landslide(s) today, I think, if you check the news out.
Tubby Beaver 209
Yeah....seen that today
pie-eater 207
Bit odd isn't it.
DumbStick 13
Still going on about 'strange things' around Mt Fuji. On the news tonight, Kawaguchiko is 1m less than usual.
Tubby Beaver 209
yeah, they've been showing that for a while hey.....wonder whats happening down Fuji way
frannyo 2
Perhaps this is the drip feed to get us used to the idea of something about to happen. I always wonder what 'they' actually know. If 'they' were fairly certain that something big was about to happen ----- would they tell people? Mass panic, not good.
Tubby Beaver 209
I think the way "they" handled the Fukushima Nuclear disaster answers your question
SKI 15
Just who are "they" anyway?
Tubby Beaver 209
Dunno, but someone should have a word with them
SKI 15
When they* can find them**. (Not sure who they and them are!)
snowbender 3
I think the way "they" handled the Fukushima Nuclear disaster answers your question Bit different that, ne. We're talking about clear signs of a natural disaster, not the lack of defences to withstand one.
onsen tamago 0
They simply can't ignore signs that everyone can see of course. Other things that only the scientific bods know about is a different matter. Mass panic on a guess is not really an option though is it.
Thundercat 60
Well, living this close to Mt. Fuji makes me really hope that nothing ever happens. It's difficult to imagine that we would go unscathed in the event of an eruption.
Go Native 70
I think the way "they" handled the Fukushima Nuclear disaster answers your question Still not one single fatality from the Fukushima disaster so I'd say they handled that pretty well.
Tubby Beaver 209
I think the way "they" handled the Fukushima Nuclear disaster answers your question Still not one single fatality from the Fukushima disaster so I'd say they handled that pretty well. I'm not talking about any fatalities.......the way in which they released information was the problem. No one knew WTF was going on. Handled pretty well?? Yeah, sure it was
Karnidge 2
They had no idea did they. I suppose to a certain extent, there's going to be a period of that in such times, but... Bloody scary looking back.
Metabo Oyaji 71
I'd point to two things in particular, that led to more anxiety (and exposure, in the first case) and loss of trust than was necessary: 1) Sitting on early SPEEDI simulation results, which resulted in many evacuees fleeing into the plume. 2) Refusing to admit for at least two months that meltdown had likely occurred early on. Left people waiting for the other shoe to drop, instead of letting folks know by late March that the worst had likely already happened. Not to mention all the tap-dancing around what damage may have been caused by the earthquake itself before the tsunami, which impacts ongoing safety policy deliberations. r45 4
Can you explain 1 a bit more Metabo? what is SPEEDI?
r45 4
What did we find out in the end was the damage from the earthquake btw?
snowdude 44
I see that radiation levels are steadily rising in various parts of Japan, including Yamanakako here in Yamanashi, close to Fujisan! Otsuki also in Yamanashi, have really shot up! So far Kofu is ok, and where we will be moving to is fine, but with radiation still leaking from the plant, don't really expect it will get better anytime soon.
Go Native 70
Radiation levels are about double here where I live in Australia than what they were in Hokkaido. No one seems to care though!
