    Japan 2019-2020: a one off?

It certainly has been a really rubbish season throughout Japan. Only had 70cm of snow here where I live this season up until today. And has been very up and down with the temps too, very warm this winter. In the 20+ years I have lived here it is the worst I can remember. I would expect next year to be better. The last couple of years have been generally rubbish mostly due to the jet stream staying further north than it should be, thus not allowing a proper NW airflow to cover Japan. Hopefully it will move back somewhere more near to normal position which should give us a better more normal winter next winter.

Looking for good Powder for learning

Well on a normal year, which this one certainly isn't, I would have said Madarao. It has open slopes, tree areas, various terrain. The slopes vary from quite flat to quite steep, some are wide and open others are narrow. There are also some nice slopes that are in the trees but are wide. Several narrow tree runs too. While it is not a huge place, it is more than enough for a day, in fact you will be hard pushed to do every part of it in one day. I have been there a few times, it is so far my favourite ski jo in Japan and I have been to a lot. It usually has really good snow and tons of it, (Just not this year). No matter what your level or ability, you can enjoy Madarao.

    Close connections between ski-jo

Madarao and Tangram are linked. So you you can easily ski both resorts with one joint ticket and they are both literally joined within the resort. Personally though Madarao is the better of the two and is more than enough for a full days skiing. I did the joint thing between those two but found myself back at Madarao within a couple of hours of doing all of Tamgram.
  4. Here in Yamanashi last year we had quite a lot of snow in March and some great conditions. This year even the winter has been shit with very little snow. It is an El Nino year and a powerful one so tends to be drier and milder when that happens. Like was mentioned March and April too is likely to be warmer than usual. Even so there is still enough snow to have plenty of fun with at least for another month or so, especially if you go to resorts that are at high elevations where the snow will be in better condition. Come with a "its spring" mindset and enjoy the fine weather, nice scenary and you will have a blast.

    Marunuma Kogen mid season

I have been there both early and mid season and each time had great snow. You can see my review as well as others in the resort review sections. It is high up s they get snow from as early as November. I always went by car so not sure about buses but I guess you can probably get one from Numata station? The resort is a bit out of the way though.
  6. Oh no, can't believe it!!!! But I understand the amount of work required to keep these forums running, and I will still continue to use the site and post reviews and photos. I appreciate all the work you guys have put in and look forward to the new stuff you are doing. Thank you for such a great site. P.s if anyone wants to keep in touch with me like SJ said contact them to speak to me.

    Morning Greetings!

Raining today and cold, quite the contrast from yesterdays warm sunny weather.
  8. Not long now before I get my season pass, end of the month I will have it.
  9. Hilton hotel and The Grand Hyatt, I have stayed at both of them, they are both very nice hotels and will keep your luggahe for you. They also both have a free shuttle bus that runs every 15 or 20 mins that take you between the hotel and Shinjuku station.

    Morning Greetings!

After a wet start from last nights rain it is again mostly cloudy and looks like may be keeping mostly cloudy. Not so cold today and only got down to 6 last night. Lots of Yukimushi flying around this past couple of days too.
  11. Not long now just one month until ski season starts here. I see tonight Fujimi Panorama have the skijo lights on, making snow most probably.

Funny day, mostly cloudy, odd patch of sunshine with a bit of light rain now and again.

    Morning Greetings!

Another sharp frost with temps going into the minus figures again. Currently 2oC, although supposed to be sunny with a high of about 10-13. Cloudy over half of the sky including here and clear blue sky to the west.

    Morning Greetings!

Clear blue sky, sunny and a cold frosty start, looks like being a beautiful day today.
  15. The peaks around here got some snow yesterday, just a dusting but nice to see.
