  3. The operators of Mizuho Highland 瑞穂ハイランドスキー場 in Shimane Prefecture went bankrupt in the spring of 2020 and it was not able to open during the 2020-2021 winter season. There was a crowdfunding campaign in spring 2021 to try and help save the ski area. That seems to have raised over 6 million yen. In some good news this week, a civil engineering company based in Hiroshima City has agreed to take over the ski area operation. There are no details about re-opening yet, but hopefully Mizuho Highland might be able to re-open for the 2021-2022 winter season. https://www.snowjapan.c

  7. The Kyukamura 休暇村ゲレンデ section of Mt Norikura Snow Resort Mt.乗鞍スノーリゾート in Matsumoto (Nagano) will not be opening for the 2021-2022 winter season. The Kyukamura area comprises of two pair lifts on one side of the resort. Uncertainty remains about whether the rest of Mt Norikura Snow Resort will be able to open for the 2021-2022 season. A lack of snow and then covid-19 has meant that the last few seasons have been particularly difficult. The resort is currently looking for ways to remain operating. https://www.snowjapan.com/japan-ski-resorts/nagano/matsumoto/mt-norikura

  11. The ski area known as Aizu Kogen Takahata 会津高原高畑 has changed name. As of spring 2021, the ski area is now known as 北日光・高畑スキー場. In English that is Kita Nikko Takahata, with Kita Nikko translating as 'northern Nikko'. It's interesting that they have gone from having Aizu in the name to associating with Nikko (city). (The official business name remains Aizu Kogen Takahata). More information on Kita Nikko Takahata here: https://www.snowjapan.com/japan-ski-resorts/fukushima/minami-aizu/kita-nikko-takahata

  13. Family Skijo オース was a ski area located to the east of central Fukui City in what used to be Miyama Town. The full name of the ski area in Japanese was ファミリースキー場オース but it is unclear how the last part of the name should be written in English characters. Perhaps one reason why the name is a mystery is… because the ski area never actually opened. The facility was built in 1994 and was officially abandoned in 2007 but during that period it did not officially open… not even for one day! More details here: Family Skijo, Fukui City
