RobBright 35
Kagura to open on 21st Novemberî«
SKI 15
It always does around there, mentioned on the Naeba Now page. Iwappara always optimistically say they'll open any time after 1st December when there's snow. Always is at least a few weeks after that when they manage to.

Anyways, my knee has been hurting me the past couple of weeks so I need to see the doc. Hopefully it'll be ok, but holding off booking til I'm sure. Crossing my fingers. Tubby Beaver 209
Kagura can get snowfalls at that time, what usually happens is that the main kagura gerende is open and you are bused from the car park at Mitsumata to the Kagura Gondola. i don't know if Kagura has snowmaking facilities, I can't recall seeing them but its not like I was looking for them
TheOriginalMyoko 0
I think Kagura usually goes get real snow up there helped by some machines (yes they do have them on the main course tb). Check the Naeba Now and Yuzawa Now reports to see what happened previous years, I'll take a look myself when I get time.
flask and butties 0
No plans yet. But there will be. And my flask and butties will be ready.
skidaisuki 0
I may be wrong, but I think it's only Naeba that uses the snow machines to ensure some early-season turns (and the publicity that goes with an early start...) Kagura's high enough to usually have sufficient real snow by the end of November. The only big disadvantage with Kagura is its exposure to the wind. It can get very windy up there and even when the lifts stay open, it can be pretty chilly on the open lifts at the end of a long day when the snow's blasting in horizontally. But better that situation than sitting in an office in Tokyo! can't wait! SdS
sanjo 2
Kagura does have snow machines. They are on the right hand side of the main gelende as you look there from the gondola station. I don't know when they use them, but they are there.
skidaisuki 0
Yeah, now you mention it, I remember seeing some there...I suppose they must sometimes use them but hopefully this year they won't need to.
Tubby Beaver 209
yep actually I have saw them before.
muikabochi 208
They use them every year early on in the season to get things going and later on in the season.
thursday 1
yes, makes sense. Hardly worth getting them going when a full blown blizzard is happening. Though that kinda happening aint too often now.
muikabochi 208
Luckily, Kagura does usually get really good amounts of snow. If Kagura doesn't, pity the resorts lower down at town level as it's the highest and best in the region. I don't think I've ever seen those machines working, but they definitely be there. RobBright 35
Same - in the time I have been going there, I've never seen them being used but normally I don't go right at the start of the season or right at the end.
joshnii 2
I think they usually have them going at night anyway so we wouldnt see them in action. Anyways lets just hope they are meaningless this coming season!
