Time to worry?
snowboard replied to sanjo's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I don't want to travel! I'm spoilt living (fairly) close to some decent places. Problem is, they have 0cm of snow. It's in the paper today lots of them are not realistically expecting to open before New year and it's going to have a big impact on them (of course). -
It's just a bit silly isn't it? Silly costumes, bowing and preening in front of a crowd. And don't get me started on the ladies events being more than a little, er, distasteful with the blatant showing of body, "hey look here" poses. Had to be said.

One Month and One Day
snowboard replied to panhead_pete's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
18 weeks?! That is a long wait. I will be out there as soon as the real snow arrives and places open up properly. -
Would be interesting to know what % of those little eggs end up getting to become an adult froggy. I bet it's a small number.

Okutadami
snowboard replied to joshnii's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Was there as well. The runs are not much to shout about (understatement!!) but like joshnii had a fun time. Warm up there it was, got a real tan today. -
Not to lose out to the early skis thread take a look at this I'd be interested to know who here has any really old first generation snowboards. I only got into it fairly recently (well, not at the beginning anyway) and would love to try out some really old gear to see how it feels.

How fast does snow melt?
snowboard replied to 97's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
What I don't get is that with all the mild weather we seem to have got since pretty much the beginning of February how much there is still hanging on. Pretty insane amounts must have fallen in those few weeks in Jan. -
They're so strict about drink/driving here and so they should be. I was talking to a friends father back home last summer and he was going on about how "in his days" (he's 65 now) people used to drive pissed all the time and not think anything of it - everyone did it. There were no laws back them apparently or ones that they enforced anyway.

The Burton Poll
snowboard replied to nzlegend's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I've owned 2 Burtons before now and not had any particular problems with them. When I'm up for new gear I'll take a look at everything out there. (Well, maybe not Kissmark ) -
Season finished for you?
snowboard replied to charlotte's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Mine finished in late February when I broke my ankle. I wasn't actually snowboarding at the time. -
I'm in Kyushu at the moment. .. sure felt that one.

snowboard replied to 7-11's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Breaking your skis is a good excuse to start boarding -
Waxing questions
snowboard replied to SomeSnowboarder's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I never use cork, as Eroizu said above. I'm pretty lazy as well, I get my sports shop friend to get it done for me -
End of season advice...

I agree, get the knee fixed up proper. -
The Bruichladdich distillery in Scotland is reviving an ancient tradition of quadruple distilled single malt - it will be 92 per cent! It says here that long ago people drank it as a cure for colic, smallpox and other diseases. But anything more than 2 spoonfuls could prove fatal. 40% is strong for me, I wonder what that thing tastes like. At that strength, will there be a taste!
