base40 0
I don't know if I'll be able to explain this clearly but... I'm looking for one of those old lamp/decoration things - very 70's (?), about 30-40cm tall, got colored blobs (?) moving up and down (looks like goo). Terrible description, cant do better at the mo - anyone know what I'm going on about. And their name? And where I might get one?
sakebomb 0
It's called a Lava lamp. Not sure where to get them though.

happyhappy 0
blob lamps. I always wanted one of them when I was in college.
7-11 2
A local tv program we have has one going on in the background. Very retro. The metallic looking ones are really quite cool though. Are they coming back into fashion then?
akibun 0
Do you have picture about it? It sounds interesting.
Yuki's Passion 1
here ya go Akibun: I bought one from Tokyu Hands in March and the thing is already broken.

Thunderbird2 0
They look pretty cool. How do those things work? Heat of the bulb? What actually is the "lava"?
badmigraine 0
You can find cheaper ones at stores such as Don Quixote and some of those little shops that sell batik, Indian sarongs, incense, pot pipes and tin jewelery. They get HOT by the way. I think it's real lava in there.
Ocean11 0
Various experiments with lava lamps in my student days led me to conclude that they are highly susceptible to damage by bong emissions, causing the wax 'lava' to become unresponsive. This seems all the stranger as they are usually found in shops that sell bongs.
badmigraine 0
Maybe the wax was moving at the normal rate after all, but time itself had slowed down while you puffed on that magic herb.
brit-gob 9
OK OK - wax or lava?

guzzlers-baps 0
Those things are so cool, I'm tempted to get one myself. And I think Blob Lamp is a far better name than Lava Lamp.
base40 0
I got my blob lamp. Blue liquid with yellow blobs, about 40cm. It's really cool. I found a store online and bought it from them, got it for 3500 yen.
damian 0
I think that the blob lamp is a cheap and unimaginative icon of the typical male who knows piss all about interior decoration yet wants to appear as though they are with it. I bought my old man and his wife a blob lava lamp a few years ago. I suggested that they put in on their very tasteless mini bar in their equally tastless home. The classless peasants actually really liked it!! Buying for the common man is so easy. If I didn't manage to insult you in this post them please let me know as I can easily re-word to include you. No need to feel left out.
Karnidge 2
Hey they are stocking small blob lamps in our nearby home center. I got an orange one, it looks well cool. I don't think I'm with it though. It's just relaxing. It might be called a lamp but it sure doesn't light much up. 34, do you love your parents really?
VoodooRoy 0
Very retro. I had no problems with the lavalamp and bong combo going on.
