grungy-gonads 54
"At 15:18 [06:18 GMT], we started to pull up the first fuel assembly with a crane," a spokesman for Tepco (Tokyo Electric Power Company) said. A recently installed crane is being lowered into the pool and hooked on to the assemblies to place them inside a cask. ---- Please don't **** us all up. Thanks.

Tubby Beaver 209
This time if they do mess it up......they won't be the only ones who are really sorry
muikabochi 208
But they would probably be extremely sorry, which would compensate.
griller 9
I have read up on this in a number of places and talk about extreme scenarios. It's impossible to know what to believe. Some say that if they mess this up, then the whole of Japan and northern hemisphere is doomed. While others say that it would just be pretty bad for the local area. So, what is it? fukdane 2
Local authorities in Fukushima will send emergency notifications to residents via mobile phones and other devices in the event of an accident.
pie-eater 207
Well if our Great Leader Abe deems it safe enough for them to go ahead, then I will jolly well sleep well at night. There'll be no faffing about, that's for sure. I can imagine the gambaru levels to be right up there!

@tokyo 14
Well, day one seemed to go off without a hitch... Ah... but.... DID IT??? That is the question. Perhaps we'll find out in 10 months time or something. You know, a bit like the meltdown news.

Tubby Beaver 209
We always hear about the terrible radiation that will be released and how it's a dangerous situation to the whole planet......but what about all the nuke bombs that were dropped in "tests" since 1945?? Was that radiation good for the planet?
HighlyTrainedNovaTeacher 2
I'm not too interested in them - long time ago and not near to me!
Tubby Beaver 209
Radiation lasts a long time.......governments have been quick to condemn the risk from Fukushima but they have been irradiating the environment for years
Boolugu Mez 3
Tubby you are right about the nukes mate, A friend posted this video on facebook showing a time lapse showing locations and number of all of the nuclear weapons which have been exploded on the planet since 1945 - it is truly shocking. I knew there had been a lot of nuclear tests, but seeing the numbers shown on this video made my jaw drop to think that "sane" people would do this to the planet and all of its inhabitants. Have heard on various docos that there is a layer of soil around the globe which can be clearly recognised by radiation levels as a result of the tests... carbon dating will not work beyond the 1950s as we have stuffed the planet with so much radiation. Scary stuff......

Chriselle 158
I think Pie Eater should take a break from the dome building and get some quality time down at the local arcade manning the UFO Catcher.....
pie-eater 207
That sounds good Chriselle. After all, I was always good at the fork lift truck driving bit in Shen Mue. I'm not saying it's exaclty the same as the jobs the heros over in Fukushima are undertaking, but I'm sure the same skill set is involved.
pie-eater 207
As long as they don't just race in the fork lifts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrUARqdPP_A That would not only be a waste of time, but perhaps somewhat dangerous.
