window-cleaner 0
As per title, really have heard next to nothing about all of this the last few months. How is the clear up going? Are they close to getting it closed down? Is it still spewing nasty stuff out into the atmoshere? Does anyone know?
bobby12 0
Didn't you hear, we got a new PM! Yay! Everything is going to change for the better!!! Now we have an excuse not to think about the pension crisis, economic crisis, nuclear crisis, or the fact that China is stepping on our toes all the time. This new PM fix will keep me occupied for about 6 months I reckon before I lose interest and start thinking about issues again, then it might be time for another PM change fix. pie-eater 207
Arnie is saying that the reactors are still emitting tons of gases and is still very worried about it all. Here's a latest interview with him. http://fairewinds.com/content/arnold-gun...japan-and-gover

They are probably emitting something still, but I don't think they are contaminating the surrounding areas to any great extent on a continuing basis. This can be checked by watching the contamination maps here: http://www.snowjapan.com/e/japan-tohoku-earthquake/radiation-concerns.html Or, for that matter, in the daily paper. The numbers are not going up anywhere that I have noticed, which they would be if the power plant were still emitting anything significant. It is to be hoped that the containment efforts will continue to keep things that way. The thing, I think, to worry about is stuff that already escaped back in March, and is only now being discovered (Hi, Tokabochi! ) , or is accumulating in certain places, like drainage ditches and waste processing plants. And, of course, food, through bioaccumulation. (Hey, sometimes being at the top of the food chain is not all it is cracked up to be.) Fortunately, almost all of the contamination that has been found so far has been cesium, not strontium. (Cesium passes out of the body in a few months, whereas strontium binds to the bones in place of calcium and stays there forever.) And yes, this post is meant to be reassuring. tokabochi 9
Yes seems to be covering our area that 'light sprinkling of whatever'. Can't see any green goo though.

klingon 10
Can't be bad news. Lets hope they can and it gets reported. Yes there will still be issues, but we need there to be light at the end of the tunnel.
muikabochi 208
Slightly worried that this typhoon is going to get close to the plant.
Metabo Oyaji 71
Looks like it will pass a bit to the west of the plant, which is not ideal, but I don't think it will do too much damage there.
grungy-gonads 54
Are we all still alive then?
grungy-gonads 54
Here's a classic comment on a "news" site from Frank in Dublin: At least the storm will flush out much of the coastal radiation from Japan.,

grungy-gonads 54
I sure hope so Tubby. Though we didn't hear much about it did we. It hardly makes the news these days. Must all be done and cleared up, in time for tea!
Tubby Beaver 209
just as well the Fukushima rice came in a teensy bit below the government recommended radiation level....phew!! That would have been a right pickle if it had come in over!
pie-eater 207
You mean the goverment recommended radiation level that was conveniently increased back in the spring time?
