griller 9
With all the fuss about resorts opening in November and the season starting then, it doesn't really ever happy like that does it. Not in a big way anyway. Always best to think of things really starting mid-December I think. Let's remember that next time round. OK?
muikabochi 208
Nah, I'm sure we'll forget and it'll be another round of expectation / disappointment / expectation / disappointment from early November to mid-December. After all, what would November be like without that?
RobBright 35
No. We perhaps like having false hopes, waiting for the JR brochures, Snowdude's Winter predictions and the agonising wait.
muikabochi 208
Yes, Snowdude - what's your latest?!
NoFakie 45
What kind of fuss is there? Have they been sending you emails and junk mail?
Go Native 70
It's not unusual to have quite a lot of snow already by now up this way but it's also not unusual to have bugger all. Early season is always very variable.
thursday 1
Snowdude got it wrong again.
Go Native 70
Well he did just say that he expected it to be a sustained cold winter with few warm spells. Winter hasn't officially started yet. He could still be right

Mike Pow 52
Can only go with my experience, the past four winters in the Niseko Resort Area (3 there and last season watching from the sidelines). Snow in October, hiking for turns in early November, lifts turning the last week in November. I suppose an 80% success rate isn't bad
Jynxx 4
YEAH ! I woke up now, and It´s Snowing and it´s White out there! I´m all GaGa ! I´ve already started my season in oct but that doesn´t change the fact that I waited for this to happen. I love it! A few days a go I woke up at 3 in the morning and I saw (dreamed?) the roofs were white. When I woke up it was raining. For me, it´s not about resort openings.
panhead_pete 27
Or just go to Austria.

griller 9
Yeah something like that, but seems some knickers were twisted.
NoFakie 45
Big fanfare? Resorts could do a fair few things better, but lets not slag them for nothing.
griller 9
Er, I wasn't slagging them.

Hellbuny 0
This is going to be my first season over here in Japan, so I hate to sound noobish, but when does the season really start to kick in to high gear? I'm mainly concerned with the Gunma region, but anything close to that would awesome! Thanks!
nippontiger 8
End of December.
muikabochi 208
Kick off proper in most places? Yes, late December. See that big red button up top with Daily Reports written on it? Go there and check out the Now Calendar. You can find archives from previous seasons and well worth a look over.
mitchpee 10
ouch this year looks very poor comparable to the last few years...hope it picks up soon!
CptSlow 0
I did that the other day actually and it seems we could still very well get a few meters in Niseko in the last few weeks of December, fingers and toes very crossed
muikabochi 208
Well, Mitch. Like where I live in Niigata. It is always late December before things get going PROPER. There is usually I would say more snowfall than there is now on the upper mountains, but it's still 'early', sort of. A few years ago, it was literally the last few days of December before things kicked off in resorts around town. Check out the reports from different areas to see.
