SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted July 15, 2007 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted July 15, 2007 We would just like to ask for a bit of feedback from people if you don't mind. The feedback you give will help us make a few decisions about one aspect of things that we are developing for next season, so it will be a big help to get some general feedback. So... the question. Basically we'd like to know what aspects of a ski resort are important to you. We don't want to initially give out a definitive list (as we don't have one), but by that we mean things like courses, general snow conditions, off-piste, lift system, park, etc. Say if you could just choose 4 or 5 things... Any feedback much appreciated! Thank you.
Hokkaidough 4
Quality of snow a place gets in general. Size needs to be big enough for a day. Lifts only bother me if they are really badly laid out or slow. Courses - for on piste I like steep but without kobus. I'm also partial to resorts that are within fairly easy reach
Kumapix 0
fun terrain ie rollovers and hips I can't stand a resort where the runs have been bulldozed
daver 0
high snow quality access to the type of terrain i want to ski number of people i am likely to competing with for said terrain intelligent(ideally), or at least efficient lift layout

tsondaboy 0
1) Grooming: Even if it is not the powder paradise, if it is nicely groomed then it still makes for a fun day. 2) Accessibility 3) Lift planning and maintenance
muikabochi 208
Big enough and the kind of courses I like Lifts that don't suck big time Park Not major, but parking that doesn't cost 1000 yen (that REALLY annoys)
Tubby Beaver 209
Snow quality, Number and size of runs, Fast Lifts Bars/ Onsen etc that are near by

Thunderpants 0
time in the lift v. time on the gerende. A nice long gondora is a big plus for me.I just hate those slow and short fixed lifts. crowds are a turn off. mixed difficulty.
joshnii 2
Runs that suit me. Snow. Lifts. Size. Not really interested in park myself.
thursday 1
1) Snow Conditions. Powder, powder and powder, if they have none, make some 2) Lift queues, I hate them and I would kill to have no lift queues 3) Night Skiing, have to ski all day and all night 4) Onsens, must have onsens in resort 5) Cheap, cheap, cheap beer. Seicomart on the premises please. Hope this helps
cheeseman 1
Availability of cheese. Conditions of snow.
spook 0
i was actually really tempted to beat cheeseman to a cheese related comment, but i didn't have the heart...
SirJibAlot 0
Access to the resort itself is critical. Not everyone has access to a car and an awesome mountain that is difficult to access with public transport is a real bummer. Other important things: 1) Maintanence of the resort (including grooming, park, toilets, etc) 2) Snow conditions 3) Length of the queues 4) Variety of terrain easy, medium, hard, and suicidal
TJ OZ 0
1)Quality of the snow - Deep, dry powder snow and well groomed runs. 2)Big mountains with diversity of terrain - although not my thing, parks and pipes and good begginner areas. (Skiers and boarders are like Amway. We are forever trying to talk others into joining us on the mountain.) 3)No lift lines - the ability to move people up the mountains efficiently 4)Car parking and ticket boxes - You need to be able to get onto the mountain with ease. 5)Apres skiing - Have a beer and a chat at the end of the day. 6)Onsens - To heal your body so you can destroy it again the next day. 7)Food - A good selection of restaurants and eateries on and off the mountain. Pretty much all the reasons why I moved to Hakuba
skidaisuki 0
Elevation / snow quality are a given, so after that... (1) Fast lifts (2) Good size and mix of runs, steep and wide, not too many moguls (3) Fair and tolerant patrol (4) Should be onsens close to the base station (i.e. close walking distance) or some big ofuro with lots of space (5) Good changing facilities for day skiiers (too often these are far too small, dirty and rudimentary, without sufficient locker space) (6) Food should be good & varied choice, especially if prices are high (7) ...and I almost forgot, I want this perfect resort to be restricted to ME - and a select group of supermodels Built us the perfect resort and we will come (so to speak)
skidaisuki 0
"The feedback you give will help us make a few decisions about one aspect of things that we are developing for next season" So SJ is buying Arai or something? Got Aussie backers have you? Very interesting.
Oyuki kigan 0
Snow quality daily maintenance of all runs, including the park at least some kind of park, even if it is a just rail and a box location (in relationship to local onsens, restaurants, etc) and maybe the most important, VIBE. Big resorts can have great facilities, but a crappy vibe which can suck the fun from riding. I had this prob at Hakuba 47 a couple of times. Whereas a tiny hill like Yachiho can be comparitively fun, even if the terrain isn't great, because you can't help but enjoy yourself there.
gerard 6
snow quality access to off-piste
2pints-mate 0
Apart from getting there: General facilities (you know, stuff) Reliability of snow quality Park I need to think more.
Yuki's Passion 1
open-minded admin and ski patrol who allow off-piste riding daily avalanche info at said resort progressive resorts - trying to open up more terrain and and make off-piste terrain more accessable. At least allowed. Yakebitai has changed a good bit in the last several seasons and is a good example. Im with OK... 47 patrol are a bunch of power-tripping, rude, obnoxious people. Dont ever duck ropes there. Fockers.
Ezorisu 0
Easy/quick access or good lodging. I agree with CB about progressive and open-minded (not common in Nihon). Good snow quality and logical grooming (don't run the cats in the morning before opening after it has been dumping all night!). Well-designed gelande - both runs and lifts/gondolas. Good food that isn't crazy expensive. I'm sure I'm forgetting something...
