I know i should lock my door, and i do sometimes (very seldom, don't even carry my key half the time), so basically it's always open. does it count if i live amongst rice paddies??? i mean, the people who walk past my place are little old ladies with their wheelbarrows and little kids to and from school. and everyone knows where we live cos its teachers housing. maybe i should be more careful since i've got computers, stereos and a ton of ski gear just sitting around...

03/04 Twins News
Siem Reeves replied to OUfreeski2's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I have to take the seths inside the gondola at geto. they just fit on the longest diaganol - a bit of a pain in the arse for the other passengers but too bad. the candides fit in the holes but split up only - this is jared by the way. -
If they just double the price then I'm sure we would see useage decline.

Tokyo may be expensive, but the mind boggles at what you can find there. Shopping for stuff is fun cos there is so much variety (especially for skis). It's obvious that I'm living in a wee little town, surrounded by rice paddies in Iwate prefecture. Tokyo is fun, but I must admit that coming home to the inaka is mighty nice too! ...and rent is sooooo cheap when you live in teacher's housing!!!!!

When are you bustin' a move? (going home)
Siem Reeves replied to nzlegend's topic in General off-topic discussions
Two more years, then back to NZ, ski the winter there and maybe head to Canada for a working holiday and ski some more... Then I'll have to think about getting a real job (that lets me ski as much as possible ) -
I have a mental image of a pair of rolly blond europeans stuffing themselves with cheese together.

do you know where its from before that?

If you want to save some money, definately go for Morioka because Japan is definately not cheap. Besides the cost, there is great powder in Iwate (the prefecture that Morioka is in, if you didn't know...) and you'll be close to some pretty nice ski areas, not to mention that you won't be that far from Hakkoda in Aomori which has powder like you wouldn't believe - and a lot of backcountry. On the other hand, Hakkaido is definately a place you wanna visit

(jared here, again too lazy to log in and out)+(will no longer tell off my wife for doing the same to me) Is ephadrene legal in japan? I think it become illegal to sell "the bomb" in NZ but could still order it from USA. Had to spell my details to the lady on the phone cos she couldent understand new zealand speak.

This is jared not shimba - im too lazy to log out and in. If its a cliff or skiing something (no real skill just balls)then after suitable preperation (checking landing) just bang my pole tops together and go - If its something that requires skill and positive actions to do (usually in the park) then I spend a bit of time visualising it in my head and pretending to do it sorting out the order I need to think about things eg 1)Same speed as for normal avoid temptation to slow down 2) Pop and spin with ? arm back, 3)grab and tweek 4)look for landing about now I can stop thinking cos land

i usually read the posts. i don't really write much because for some reason, logging in to snow japan isn't that easy when jared is always on it. the computer keeps shifting back to jared's settings even after i have logged in as me. on the other hand, it could just be that i'm lazy

Australia/NZ season - not long now?
Siem Reeves replied to LiquidX's topic in General off-topic discussions
Ahhhhhhh, just looked at that picture of Cadrona and it made me homesick - not that Cadrona is the best skifield in Wanaka (Treble Cone rocks ) but the snow... and of course, being pretty much the end of the Japanese season, maybe I should head home for a holiday... -
Learning better technique
Siem Reeves replied to IceEiji's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Personally, I like having good technique because it makes everything else easier and more fun whether you're carving it up on the groomed trails or getting face shots in the powder (definately the most fun ). Let your skiing speak for itself!!!! Ahhh, makes me sad to think its pretty much over for ski season... -
How many times you been then?
Siem Reeves replied to rach's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
About 15 days. Would have been more, but things came up. Night skiing is great, no crowds... got new skis while I was in Tokyo so I'll be skiing any day or night I can get in. Going to Hakkoda next week -
advice on fat skis
Siem Reeves replied to zwelgen's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Fat skis are just that - fatter than your normal ski (that is, wider) which makes them good for powder. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the new Salomon 1080s are like? They are starting to look a bit like pocket rockets and I'm curious to know what they are like on and off piste. -
What are you skiing on?
Siem Reeves replied to jared's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
How do the Pocket Rockets ski when they arnt in pow? are they ok on the groomers or is there a big flat spot between turns? I'm considering getting some. Also how long would you get them, head height? bigger or smaller? Thanks -
Ok, i will admit that i'm a skier (which is not to say that i'm ashamed of it, but this thread seems to by a lot of boarders - not that i have anything against boarders, most of my friends board, but it seems that many boarders love to take the **** out of skiing). Whatever you are doing, whether it is skiing or boarding - get lessons. no matter how many people tell you that you don't need them, you'll be surprised how much easier it is when you are doing things properly - plus you'll avoid developing bad habits. You are never to good to take lessons, i know instructors that would still ta

Gee Jared, nice skis!!! I wonder who bought them for you? Wouldn't be that lovely wife of yours now would it? I'm on an old pair of Rossi cuts which aren't bad but hopefully i'll get some new twins for the new year. Want some lines...
