SnowJapan Moderator SnowJapan.Com#4 5 Posted September 25, 2006 SnowJapan Moderator Share Posted September 25, 2006 The Uonuma region of Niigata is famous for it's delicious koshihikari type of rice. The folks over at Ishiuchi Maruyama resort have in the last few years taken to giving their rice some fun time on the ski lift. Each batch of rice gets 4 days (ichinichi-ken?) on the lifts. The results are, apparently, very good. Here's some pics from this morning:
rach 1
Excellent! (I wonder if it really does make a difference?)
muikabochi 208
I have seen that a few times, looks really funny. You can see it from Route 17. I hope they pay for their tickets.
scouser 4
Interesting! How fast does the lift go? I presume slowly?
soubriquet 0
They don't have to run the lift, other than to load and unload it. I'd guess it does speed up drying, because wind speed does increase quite rapidly with height above ground level, and the humidity drops off too.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted September 25, 2006 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted September 25, 2006 Actually they do have the lift during the daytime - quite slowly. Today they are putting some new rice on there.

snosurf 0
Is there lift attendants working, and if the rice wants to get off, would the lift attendant say 'Have a rice day?'
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted September 26, 2006 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted September 26, 2006 That rice has to stay on there 4 days without getting off! Apparently this years crop is already totally sold out. Expensive as well it is.
SerreChe 2
These are some very funny pics. I have never see that before. Is it the 1st year they do it? Very imaginative!

xxx 2
A friend here in Tokyo claims to have had that rice. Said it was no more delish than normal koshihikari. At least it is probably very happy rice.
big-will 7
If they gave me a big bag, I would tell them. Looking forward to being on that lift myself in 3 months time
BagOfCrisps 24
A girl in the office just said "I thought rice came in bags". She was being serious.
joshnii 2
Koshihikari IS the best. I remember going to Gunma once and in some restaurant having some rice. I really could tell the difference, it was crap. Surprised myself.

mina2 6
I really like seeing ducks in the rice fields. Funny little fellows they are. Anyone get to grab any of that flying rice?
