  6. Just watching some of the coverage on the news for the millionth time something just occured to me: If an alien had visited Earth last night and happened to see Kokuritsu stadium in Tokyo and the Bangkok stadium at the saem time they would certainly be very non plussed as to what exactly was going on......on the one hand there was a stadium packed to bursting with manic fans and flags etc BUT NO game going on at all, yet at the other there was a sport being played with no one watching at all (due to the restrictions)......maybe they would put it down to some sort of ESP or something!!

  8. Actually went to enquire about the National Health scheme at local town hall not so long ago. Not a bad system and covers most things BUT couldn`t believe it when they asked me to pay for the last two and half years I have been here as a back payment!!!! They wanted me to pay for something I have never used, could never use?!?!?!?! Plus this years, so was looking at a ridiculously extortinate amount of money. I ended up walking out after a bit of an argument and am now happy and dandy with interglobal too same as Kintaro, by far a better option.
  9. ALso watched the game last night, as per usual a pretty slow and dull game but I had an awsome time in my local bar. The place was packed and the atmosphere wicked, lots of singing and drums etc, and they went mad at the goals and then just nuts at the final whistle!! Very amusing and well worth the game! Thought the red card on the N.Korean guy was a bit harsh seeing as though the game was about to be blown for full time and it was half of ona a dozen of the other as well.
  10. Yamayama.. supposed to be set at 28c this summer to curb the emissions as O11 said. Luckily I have my own office which means nudity at wok for me!! Alos juts found an old deck chair recliner here and took it up on the roof yesterday for a wee break! Awsome, had a small table my book and a load of straws in my drink so i just had to move my head for a slurp whilst reading my book! All I needed was a tape recording of waves crashing and seagull`s squarking!!!!! It`s my new summer hot spot at work!! Hoping not too get caught!
  11. Prob back to Ogasawara studying the turtles, diving and surfing!! Back to paradise for couple of months!!
  12. Was in the Japan Times that mixed Onsen are making a comeback in the poularity stakes, especially amongst young women. Users reported that mixed onsen is a more enjoyable bathing experiance and more social, and water richer in minerals due to not being so watered down as only one bath as opposed to seperate ones. Mixed Onsen eticate includes, not looking at bathers when entering the bath, leaving a gap of three people between you and neighbour and making conversation. How about people here, would you go to mixed onsen??
  13. JapanVisitor- you a fellow Lancastrian?? Where abouts?
  14. GG- was a venerated cheeseman of my time!!! Actually coach from the rugby team was part of the organisers panel and so we always got invited down to take a tumbel! Akibun- Thanks for the concern...only once had an injury and that was to my shoulder, but usually padded up in rugby shirts and just running as fast as you can down a hill ended up in us falling over near the start or in a heap on someone else! the grass is usally pretty soft and wet too! Just wicked fun in all!!
  15. Quote: 11 restaurants in the top 50 list... more than the whole of France I needn't expand on what that last headline quote is attempting to allude to. Ridiculous. Food plays a void role in the cultural fabric of day to day every day persons life in the UK. Like all anglo countries, food really is a minor point on the events list. The UK is the most extreme of all that I have visited. I have lived in the UK for 12 months and as of next week I will have left the UK 14 times. Everytime I leave here I enjoy great 'peoples' food that reflects the people and story-line of the country/regio
  16. Went to that every year when at uni. with our rugby team!! Awsome event and usually preceeded and followed by copius amounts of alcohol!! Akin to chasing logs down the hill here in Japan!! Cheeseman....you would love it, or is it cheese abuse??
  17. Would you do this? Got to admit the houses gadgets look pretty damn cool (especially the digital picture frame such a agood idea!!) . Under surveillance in the house of the future In a unique experiment, a family will have every move they make spied on in a home stuffed with hi-tech gadgets. Gizmo House. ALso like Iron Man!!!!
  18. Quote: Originally posted by grungy-gonads: I have fond memories of the healthy and nutritious jam roly-poly pudding with custard. I sometimes had seconds. Got to have a nice skin on the custard though!!! My school here is fantastic! We have three different caffeteria/restaurants to choose from; Noodles, rice and bread. You can get anything from Katsu Curry to Ramen!!! We even have a sushi chef every Friday, which was today`s menu for me!
  19. Do: Rugby, snowboarding, surfing, cricket, squash and recently tennis, (not necessarily in that order!) Watch: Rugby, plus most sports.
  20. Anyone ever seen these fights at all? In the town of Nagaoka in Niigata, traditional fights between bulls were resumed after a series of earthquakes had disrupted the regular schedule. 3000 people turned out to watch 15 matches!!!!! A bull wins when he butts the other bull out of the ring. These fights have been designated an Intangible Cultural Asset, although some find it hard to think of a bull as intangible!!!
  21. New business opportunity for the nodding dogs! Study has found that ten percent of the population—that is, the same number of people living in Tokyo—live alone. This is so much of a problem that a new business has sprung up. If you live alone, you can pay ¥10,000 to an unazuki-ya (“nodding shop”), who will arrange for someone to sit with you for two hours and listen to you natter away, nodding agreeably at whatever you say to keep you going.
  22. More of a fan of "Pigeon Street"!!! Now there`s a box set I would get!!!!
  23. I heard there was some dyslexic innsomniacs lying awake at night wondering if there was a dog!!!! Oyajigag ごめん!
  24. SJ like a divine voice from above keeping us safe in our little world!!! Heroes to us all!
