  1. Watched some more of the first season this weekend. Damn brilliant!
  2. Of course he lost, but I didn't think it was that humiliating. It was exhaustion that seemed to knock him out, but he almost made the second round. No one picked him to beat Sapp did they? I imagine if Sapp had lost he would have finally had to pack his bags and left Japan. Panasonic execs are sleeping well, now. There were some pretty good matches at the Pride fight.
  3. You could get away with saying, "my favorites are Happo and Furano." Like friendster said, just here to help.
  4. It is very common for the discount overseas calls in SE Asia (particularly Bangkok) to use VoIP. It is really a great technology and the one time I called America from Bangkok was pretty clear. I wouldn't have been surprised if it was a bit better than the local telco lines. Goemon - you know if any of the discount overseas carriers in Japan (Brastel, etc) are implementing VoIP yet? I imagine these kinds of places can have a local dial in number that connects to their VoIP service (telco from your home in Japan to their base, then VoIP overseas). There are free VoIP carriers out t
  5. Hmmmm, so mostly the same but only Red Stage gets the Skyline and the Z. Speraking of Red Vs. Blue. Anyone watched this ? Hilarious!
  6. heh - I had this theory for a long time that Blue Stage was all the smaller, cheaper, more family oriented cars, and Red Stage has the Skylines, and Zs and more expensive cars. Most of the time this theory holds, but I actually saw a Red Stage not too long ago that was mostly mid range cars. It didn't have the little Ks but no sports cars either. Regardless, I am sticking with this until I hear a better explanation.
  7. This is too weird... db comes back from Hokkaido and all of the sudden he has kao moji for his screen name and is talkig about anime. What happened to the Japan-a-phobic db we all know?
  8. Oh yeah - definitely hilarious. Good, witty and biting humor.
  9. I thought it was db with big ears. You think it is a hassle getting across Tokyo with a snowboard and boots, try taking a snowboard, boots, skis, poles, and more boots. You're right I missed the "as I get older" part. I too think it would maybe be fun to try skiing again, but not because I have anything against snowboarding. I love snowboarding, I am just curious to see how skiing has evolved since I stepped on to a board.
  10. Oh dear lord db, look at your name. now you will never again be able to be ".db." again. There might have to be an intervention. I think it is just all one big call for attention (the snowboarding-skiing thing, not the name). If everyone was telling you, "try skiing, try skiing," you would be saying, "naaaa I'm a snowboarder." But now every post you have to affirm that you are no longer a snowboarder. whatever
  11. Ooooooh, but rabbits are so soft. And dead rabbits are so much less likely to hop away when all you want to do is pet their soft soft fur.
  12. Was that written by sfg_sam? While there is some useful info in there, does it really have to be so emotional?
  13. Well digital is just sooo cheap these days. You can buy a sound card that records 24bit for under $100. 5 years ago that would have cost you $1000s. Philips and Sony are the two biggest players in the audio format world so we'll see who comes out on top (but remember Sony did lose the betamax race). Like most standards battles these days it will certainly be a long long time before a format becomes the clear winner. More than likely you'll find dual format players considerably more common than seeing a company take sides.
  14. Nothing against skiers, but like normal, I think you are a bit quick to jump the gun. You have just gotten this idea in your head but you make it sound like you already bought the skis. You are already a good rider, but if once you hit that next level you will find it is much more fun than where you are, even if you aren't in powder. That level is when the "riding" is just completely natural without thought. Eventually you won't think about catching an edge or making a turn or even avoidig a camping baggy pantsed kid. One it is automatic you can just concentrate on having full on fun. I
  15. That's right you're not. Hell, you didn't even call me when you were in Tokyo. (I take it you are back)
  16. Don't worry about it man. Apparently they have been getting a big dump for the last few days. Eevn if the powder is shy we'll have a good time...and I am sure the beer won't run out.
  17. Ocean - I hope you realize that surely db and I are able to tell what is and isn't Ocean11 sarcasm. I know some people on here occasionally have problems.
  18. Right, it is easier to measure vertical distance travelled. Some resorts in the states even keep track of that for you and award prizes, like frequent flyer miles.
  19. Do not wait until you get to Hakuba!! (unless you just plan to rent) - The shops in Tokyo are very easy to find. Go to either Jimbocho stn and walk toward Ochanomizu, or go Ochanomizu Stn and walk towards Jimbocho. Many shops in there, but I wouldn't put too much hope in finding last year's gear. Is there a good reason you aren't buying the gear at home before you come? Chances are you would have an easier time finding your size and probably save some dough.
  20. With a really good sound system, surely. In your car? Most likely not.
  21. Did you know the original towers were designed by a Japanese man? I was chatting with a Japanese designer friend that happened to live in NYC for a number of years. He seemed a little put off by the selecton process for the new design. Apparently there is some controversy over the way the applicants were all overlooked at the last minute for a design by a "friend" of the mayor's. (I should say I haven't researched any of this myself.)
  22. hmmmmmm, well that all depends... If "where I live" is where most of my stuff is than I live in a 5'x7' storage space outside of Seattle. If you mean where I sleep then right now that is not-quite-central Tokyo. It seems to change every couple months though.
  23. I'm practicing Ocean Which category does BigSausage fall under? XXX - With Windows 9x you are pretty safe to just install over the top. You will never lose your files this way. Some of your programs may not work (although that is less likely with this kind of reinstall) but all your data is safe. Unfortunately with Win9x, a reinstall without reformatting usually doesn't help all that much. And to make matter's worse, while reinstalling over the top may return some Windows functionality (as is likely in BigSauage's case) it usually just makes a cluttered OS even more cluttered. W
