BigSausage 0
I just went to a friends house and they were serving these lovely Nagano apples - covered in huge amounts (or so it seemed) of SALT! For christs sake, what are they thinking??

snowboard_freak 0
Whats with that? I haven't tried it so i probably shouldn't knock it but I really can't see salt adding to the flavour of a good crisp apple.
kintaro 0
It's good that way...try salt on pineapple too. Also try mango with shoyu and vineger. Oishii!
Plucky 0
Went to a festival last weekend and they put sugar on the fries. WTF is up with that? The lady was confused when I tried to throw them away.....
snobee 0
My grandfather who was as tuff as nails until 83(when some cont hit him on the head with a hammer) - always put salt on apples, nectarines, peaches....and always put sugar on tomatoes.
Ocean11 0
Putting salt on cut apples will stop them oxidizing and going brown. But that's about all that can be said for it... Sugar on chips? Disgusting.
oxydiser 0
YUCK!

I rabidly tore into the fries, put three in my mouth and then spit them out. Sorry to the random Japanese lady they landed on if you're reading..... It wasn't so much it was bad, just such a surprise. Who in the hell puts sugar on chips??? Well, now I know They still were bad though...
oxydiser 0
I'm curious to know what the taste is like. Changing the subject a little, but recently I had some of those dark senbe crackers that had big chunks of sugar coating it and it was really yummy.
scoobydoo 0
I've had a few nasty shocks with the old salt on apple thing here. Not good. How can that be a good thing?? Sheesh. To spoil the natural taste of an apple. And never eating the skins of grapes and looking at me like I'm a loon for eating them. Am I going to poison myself or what??
sanjo 2
I hate that. I just cant see how salt on an apple makes it better.

snowboard_freak 0
Macca's chips dipped in a sundae. Hmmmm, great summer snack!
Siem Reeves 0
it's supposed to bring out the sweetness (in the case of salt on fruit - try it on watermelon ) but the fries thing just baffles me. you don't put loads of it on, just a sprinkling. it's definately good with fresh pineapple and this sounds crazy and please don't make fun of me, but salt with crushed fresh chillies is excellent for those tangy/sour fruits. they do it in cambodia
oo 1
I think it's gross too. One time I had one that had so much salt on it I could hardly taste the apple. I think it had been pickling for a few hours before I got to it, and the obasan serving added some fresh salt for good measure. Gross.

xxx 2
its-a-clock. surely no, you're kidding right. on a banana?? talking of bananas - anyone else here like banana sandwiches. squash up a soft banana with a bit of sugar and wait for a while. excellent.
nekobi 0
i usually put a bit of lemon juice on cut-up apples to keep them from going brown, but here they use salt. my grandmother would always put salt on grapeftuit. but i prefer sugar on it.
grungy-gonads 54
I must say, when I was last in the UK I found the custom (?) of soaking fresh strawberries in a syrupy sugar sauce rather distressing.....
