BagOfCrisps 24
Same here, I have shown that link to tons of people. They all want to go.
2pints-mate 0
I can vouch for that, he is clogging up mail with his links to that. They are very popular though.
TJ OZ 0
There was an excellent little cake/coffee shop at the start of the walking track. Nice spot to come back to after a beautiful stroll through the forest.
dale#1 1
Didn't notice that. Aren't there 2 paths leading up to it - one nearer the main road going up to SK and the other one a little further in?
TJ OZ 0
I'm not sure about the paths. We caught a bus from the train station that dropped us off and pointed us up the hill. It was 1-2 km easy walk along a forest path to the monkeys.
snowboarding-sam 0
I went last week and have made a gallery: http://www.snowjapan.com/e/insider/photo_section.php?userid=snowboardingsam&userGallery=72 Great place.
2pints-mate 0
Nice photos sam, I want to go there this time we're in Japan - looks really cool. I want to go when it's snowing and there's some snow sprinkled on the tops of those monkey heads.
Ocean11 0
I hate Japanese monkeys. Vicious, ugly little things.
2pints-mate 0
I think they are lovely.
SteveKaz 0
Has anyone travelled to these critters from Shiga Kogen, everything I read has you coming from Nagano, but I thought there was a bus from Shiga Kogen? Any info anyone has would be great....
ianbc 0
a couple questions about these monkey's, how close can you get to them, the picture where the photographer is super close, can anyone get that close or was that staff photoguy or something. also what are they doing in the May? they still hang in the same area? thanks
SerreChe 2
O11 back in da house
cal 6
I think they always hang in the same area - suppose they might want to be taking more onsen in winter than summer though maybe. They are always there though apparently. You can get as close as you want - and that means very close. Well take a look at the photos on there, take a camera and you can take photos like that. Yuki's Passion 1
its an awesome place. Some of those baby monkeys are quite cute. Dont know if this live camera has been linked but here you go. http://www.jigokudani-yaenkoen.co.jp/livecam/monkey/index.htm
hiiambang 0
There is a direct bus from Nagano eki, just go to the Tourist Information center and ask for a time sheet/which bus stop to go to. Although the brochure advises you to observe from afar, the caretaker didn't say anything when I was within touch distance of the monkeys. Monkeys were running around 1-2 feet away from my legs, one of them actually hugged my friend's leg. Then it started to urinate.
yamayamayama 2
They pretty much ignore you. Rather than them get out of the way when you walk toward them, they expect you to.
daver 0
i got a pretty good picture of monkey's humping at this place. well worth the trip.
Error404 0
Excellent, sounds like a photo of the moment to me. Go on lets see. I love those monkeys though. Last time I went we were there over 2 hours. I wonder if the monkeys like the less snowy winter.
izzy 0
I went to see them for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Crazy little things they are. Easy to take some excellent photos there.
yoroshiku onegai shimasu 2
Went to see the monkeys last week. Great place.
me jane 0
Decisions - go to see them this season, when they are not in the snow or go in winter and miss out on ski time?
joshnii 2
You can do the monkeys in half a day from Shiga Kogen - maybe on a day when the snow or weather isn't as good, or on the day you leave...
muikabochi 208
Fall would be nice with all the colors
marnix 0
you can do it if you leave a bit early and don't park your car in the village and walk from there. We did that and it took quite a while to get to the monkeys. If you park at the right parking lot it is just a short walk (nice after a day of skiing/boarding)
