Metabo Oyaji 71
The IOC seems bent on turning the Olympics into a TV game show. Heard a rumor, though, that Tokyo may be in the running for 2020. Which would be cool.
Slippery Jim 65
I wouldn't put much credit in rumor, MO. People start crazy rumors all the time.
pie-eater 207
I reckon they're just going to give up.

69 5
I was thinking, they could try again for 2024.
Alexander L 80
not absolutely sure about this, but I heard there could be a positive economic benefit if they actually win.
Alexander L 80
as opposed to a negative one if they go either way.
@tokyo 14
Can't wait to find out.
pie-eater 207
I fear we may be in for a long wait.
brit-gob 9
It seems like the spec for Tokyo Olympics is being downgraded by the day. Things not being built, the main stadium getting a considerable downsize. Makes a mockery of all the plans promised to get them doesn't it.
Chriselle 158
Fukushima may end up being the ultimate downsizer......
fukdane 2
Lets hope not!
HeatherLocklearRocks 1
That main stadium looks pretty different to what they originally had! Is there much precedent of big changes once a city has snatched the rights?
SKI 15
A joke, it is.
Tubby Beaver 209
has this been on the news recently? I haven't seen any mention of it....
muikabochi 208
I've seen it mentioned a few times. Doesn't seem to be breaking through into big headlines though.
Metabo Oyaji 71
So we're not going to get the giant sneaker? What does the new design look like?
rach 1
It kinds of looks like a watered down version, not as long and not as sleek.
Metabo Oyaji 71
More of a house slipper, then?
NoFakie 45
Can't say I've noticed anyone talking about the redesign either, only the petitions against knocking the old one down and building something new, the proposed one in particular. They're currently knocking down another Tange building, the old Akasaka Prince which they are taking down with a new floor by floor technique. It was the ripply hotel by the spaghetti junction at Akasaka Mitsuke. We stayed there once on a deal and I liked it. The room and bed were big and it had a nice separate bath and toilet. It didn't seem remotely dated to me, and much better than hotels that now get loads of gaijin guests, like the Shiba Park.
grungy-gonads 54
This was what was sold This is the current version, before inevitable further cuts
surfarthur 22
Not even close to being as cool.
brit-gob 9
I think the whole thing is an outrageous waste of money BUT, places should be held to their promises. Otherwise what's the frigging point of the presentations etc. all make believe
Metabo Oyaji 71
This was what was sold This is the current version, before inevitable further cuts Somehow the new version makes me think of Roomba. Can't say I'm particularly fond of either one, though.
