muikabochi 208
Today is the first day/night of the annual Tokabochi Tokamachi Snow Festival. Tokamachi is about 30 minutes drive from Muikamachi, in the next valley parallel to where I am. We had clear skies earlier on this evening but it started snowing which kind of spoilt some of the later photos I took, but here's some anyway to get an idea of what was on show. charlotte 0
Looks great! Is that a tsunami themed one the one with the boat? Wonderful.
69 5
Looks great totally. How easy is it to get there from Yuzawa?

tokabochi 9
Good fun hey muika. Glad you made it over. You can get the Hoku-hoku train line from Yuzawa - it goes through Muikamachi and then under the mountains to Tokamachi. Takes just less than 30 minutes.
griller 9
Very cool. Any idea how long it takes them to make those things?
lin 0
Impressive work. Seems a different kind of flavour to the most famous Sapporo one.

r45 4
Are they all in one place or dotted around the center of town or something?
tokabochi 9
They are actually all over the place - some quite a few km from the middle of Tokamachi. There's a few 'hiroba' type areas that have a few together but generally they are dotted around Tokamachi. You really need a car to go round and see them all. Some are slap bang in the middle of tiny neighbourhoods with only narrow roads all round.
Nisoko 6
They look good, I like the styles there.

muikabochi 208
Yes you would be missing out if you were walking. Some of the good ones are 5km+ out of the main area. Rob, while maybe not well known to foreigners, it is quite a famous snow festival.

best skier in hakuba 5
Me too! They look impressive. I know there is history there, but I'm surprised more places that get lots of snow don't do this kind of thing.
