Freddie 0
What do you reckon the ratio is now this year? I'd say there seem to be more boarders now at most places.
klingon 10
I see 65-70% boarding, 30-35% skiing
RayInJapan 0
Not up here in Tohoku - seems most places are 65% skiers though there are a few places where its closers to 50/50.
nekobi 0
i definitely see more skiers at nozawa them boarders. you can check out the numbers on the sj resort pages. according to them, it's 72% skiers, 28% boarders at nozawa; 40% skiers, 60% boarders at 47. interesting. SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted March 4, 2003 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted March 4, 2003 The numbers on the resort pages were for last season, so it will be interesting to see how the numbers shift for this season.
Ocean11 0
A lot of the older places like Nozawa or Happo are still dominated by skiers. Some of the smaller places that advertise their toys as the main attraction are dominated by boarders. After spending so much time at Nozawa last year, I was surprised to go to Miyoko and see a roughly 50/50 balance there. Maybe 'dominated' is the wrong word to use, but in some cases it does feel that way.
grungy-gonads 54
Ocean, I've noticed this before - is there some reason why you write Myoko as Miyoko? Or is that the right way to write it?
Ocean11 0
The way I write it is wrong. And there is a reason but it's silly and I'm not going to go into details. I stand corrected, thanks.
snowboard_freak 0
When i was in Niseko it would have been 50/50. Maybe even 60/40 - boarder/skier.
Fattwins 0
Where I ski more riders but I think sking is still bigger. It will slowly get smaller in japan but in Europe and Canada etc sking is still so easy to tour around.
scoobydoo 0
I'm seeing more boarders than skiers, definitely
cheeseman 1
And also it would be good to know the % of Cheesefans out there. Perhaps in the off season Features this year you could concentrate on that and do some analysis, SJ, like you did last year with the Yuzawa stats?
Fattwins 0
Good to hear that the chesseman isnt all cheese. Stats are good only if you us them properly. Of course I want the stats though. Any chance in getting average 5 year snow falls?
Will Lee 0
Depending on where you go, I guess. When I was up at Tazawako I was surprised to see the place was very much an old school ski resort(meaning mostly skiers). Same goes for Nozawa and Myoko Suginohara. But the most lopsided place I`ve been to so far this season has got to be Hotaka Bokujo in Gunma Pref...I swear it was 90% boarder/10% skier(no joke)!
Wizz 11
My take: boarders 60, skiers
echineko 1
Some place is so many boarder, but yet place like Nozawa is still many skier because only recently for the snowboarder on there.
DrEvil 0
I see more snowboarders than skiers wherever I go.
dancing_barefoot 0
There seem to be more snowboarders than skiers at Alts, which is where I go most.
frannyo 2
Loads more skiers than boarders when I go to Nozawa.
scouser 4
Definitely depends on where you go - varies wildly. But I'd say the % of boarders is still on it's way UP.
Karnidge 2
I was at Sugadaira yesterday, and it looked like 75% boarders to me.
iggy 0
Hakkoda and Hachimantai Forest defintely have more boarders!
echineko 1
On the Japanese news last night about skiers and snowboarders and interview with some resort. All of them say that boarder is increase again this year, but total number of guest is again down. They looked sad!
nagoid 4
I saw that (or something similar too) the other night. They also interviewed a few skier only places (can't remember the names) and they said that their numbers were up on last year.
scouser 4
Skier only numbers actually up? Thats surprising.
