scouser 4
Snow town people - done it yet? My Japanese friend reckons it will snow once more before the real end of the snowfalls this season. I think they're mad!!
Ocean11 0
No, I don't change them till mid-April after the early April snow.
zwelgen 0
I usually do it after I get back from Golden Week travels. You never know when you might drive over a mountain pass that just opened or something.
nekobi 0
when i bought my car in the summer, it still had its snow tires on. and i never bothered to change them. and i don't plan to til i scrap the car!
Fattwins 0
I dont change them till golden week. It doesnt really matter. I canada I used them all year long.

IceEiji 0
After Golden Week usually.
Will Lee 0
Changing them now would be a mistake...especially if you went last weekend. My buddy and I saw many poor souls spinning and sliding yesterday(and slowing us down).
rach 1
It must be so expensive and so much hassle to have wheels in Japan, hey?
zwelgen 0
expensive - yes a hassle - yes worth it - hell yeah.
frannyo 2
Well put. Rach was just looking for some comfort, zwelgen, methinks....
base40 0
Poor rach, it seems your car trip planning didn't go as well as you'd like this season either...
Plucky 0
you spelled 'tires' wrong
rach 1
Not as good as I would like - some of my friends (with cars) aren't quite as keen as going as often as I am. Theres been a few cancelled trips this season, but it's been good all the same. Not over yet either, hopefully. Not quite...
mattlucas 0
Snowtires. What are they for. They sound expensive. I've always gotten by with all season radials. I have yet to get stuck and if the tires spin I can easily put the chains on.
Fattwins 0
Last year I got stuck in a 150cm 3 day storm. Ski Resorts in Nagano average a base of around 300 cms every year. The snow line is a little lower than Canada also. Just think of Japan as Vancouver island with colder temps. You need snow tires or chains to get on the highway or roads sometimes. Get the international lisence.
r45 4
You'll really need snow tyres if you are living in a snow place for sure. Chains are pain, noisy as well as not too friendly to road surfaces.
dale#1 1
WHat happens if you just keep the snow tyres on all year? It just wears them out quickly?
Ocean11 0
They wear out making them less effective on snow, and they're not good in rain. Stopping on a wet road takes about 1/3 longer with snow tyres. (My JAF magazine had a very informative article about it in early spring...)
zwelgen 0
It depends where youre living but if youre going to the mtn often then youre gonna need snow tires. If you live in a place where it snows lots (I think Takayama does) then youre gonna want them. Its just such a pain having to put chains on off on off on off on off. Well worth the money if the car doesnt have them anyway.
DrEvil 0
I really should change them
