muikabochi 208
Well I have been out of Japan for a bit and not really looking at the news -- how are the elections going? I read one Newsweek article that basically said the current leading party has all but lost. Surely no?!? Is there actually going to be a change. What a shame I have missed all the noisy shouting from vans.
RobBright 35
There is gonna be change. Then after a year, when the DPJ fail deliver on their promises, it'll revert back to the LDP.
big-will 7
I try to avoid the elections and everything to do with them as best I can. Another week or so?
ShinyDiscoBall 2
Got to admit it's very exciting though, surely.

snowboarder 0
If these new dudes get in, what kind of sweeping change will we instantly see (he asks with only a small hint of sarcasm)?

bobby12 0
DPJ talking about changing all kinds. Basically I like them, they seem more enlightened about immigration and rights for foriegners. The only thing I dont like is that they want to make the highways free, I think that is a totally crazy idea. We need trucks to move cargo around quickly, and I want to get to Nagano in 6 hours not 8 every time and am happy to pay a premium for it. Also, what happens to all the investment in ETC facilities etc - madness.
thursday 1
you Brit guys would do OK. They will support a strong yen. Noticed it's been edgeing up lately? Noticed how USD ansd Yen are kicking Euro around lately? me neither.
LiquidX 0
Me neither. Yen/pound - it only had one way to go didn't it. And it's hardly racing. Still under 160.
bobby12 0
i dont think it is a foregone conclusion that pound will keep recovering against the yen. i think the UK is in dire straights.
muikabochi 208
This morning as I was driving along a country road I stopped at a junction and a procession of 7 vehicles went past. One van in the middle and 3 large cars either side, each with 4 people in the same clothes, white gloves and waving out of the window. Got to wonder what good 25+ people waving to no-one and saying "yoroshiku" and "gambarimasu" will do. Do they not realise how absurd it is? Got a few funny looks from one or two of the wavers are they realised I was a gaijin.
grungy-gonads 54
But were not impressed into feeling that you wanted to vote for this guy who was promising to do good?
bobby12 0
Van 1: - hello! - i am mr Tanaka! - please vote for me - hello! - i am mr Tanaka! - please vote for me - (repeats endlessly) Van 2: - hello! - i am mr Nakata! - please vote for me - hello! - i am mr Nakata! - please vote for me - (repeats endlessly) Van 3-8: -(same as above) Sorry, but how is this useful to anyone? r45 4
It all depends on how sincerely they say it. And how many people are waving. And how nice their smiles are.
NoFakie 45
When they do surveys, ordinary Japanese say the election cars are a nuisance too.
brit-gob 9
I reckon it's just name recognition, drilling it home. Oh, and a healthy dose of 'it's always been done like that' as well.
thursday 1
they should do it in the early hours, like 4am when everyone's still dreaming and leave it subliminally in their sleep.
bobby12 0
I really think it should be illegal. it is noise pollution. The crazy thing is they are not allowed to campaign online. that would be such an effective, environmentally friendly and logical way to get the message about your policies out. Go Native 70
I've found very few things in Japan to be done in effective and logical ways...
