kintaro 0
I'll be heading to Vegas soon. I'm feeling like the only guy from Hawaii who hasn't been there. I'm not much of a gambler but I'm interested in the architecture, the shows and people watching. I'd also like to try the stratosphere rides, etc. It's not your ordinary city and it has some interesting history. If you've been there or not, what are your thoughts about Vegas? Yuki's Passion 1
If you've been there or not, what are your thoughts about Vegas? hookers and blow?? Fear and Loathing...?? Those rides do look really fun...saw some special on discovery about them. Id be up there before the casinos, but I am not into wasting money on gambling.
veronica 2
Very very interesting place. Don't need to gamble to just walk round, soak it up, experience it. Wouldn't want to overdo it, but I think it is an intriguing place. Enjoy!
ausi ski bum 1
I have been there, Hire a car and head out to the Grand Canyon, consider Quad Bike Riding in the dessert, thats a lot of fun, deffinatly do the rides on the Stratosphere, there is nothing on earth comes close to how scary that is, so much so we did them all three times. Book your shows before you leave home and take a walk along the strip. Bad things, the guys slapping hookers business cards in your face the whole time and the time share guys offering free shows, they get really annoying to the point I felt like I was in a third world country. best skier in hakuba 5
Certainly not everyone's idea of a place to live, but defitely one to experience.
thursday 1
I'd like to go there just to see all the grand buildings. And the Grand Canyon.

gerard 6
I'm more interested in the desert and canyons, but always wanted to check out the scene in town too. I'd like to try my hand at a poker table too.

kintaro 0
It's ALL helpful! That means you also think it's a worthwhile place to visit and not just a hooker ridden gambling spot in the desert.
Ezorisu 0
I'm from Hawaii and I really have no interest in Vegas... I don't understand the attraction it holds to all my aunts and uncles and all the members of that age demographic. I've been there only three times, and all those times it has been on someone else's dime - one bicycle industry trade show and two firearms industry trade shows. I never even dropped even a quarter in a cheap slot machine! ...although maybe I was tempted to for about half-a-second at the airport... maybe. If any of those times had been during winter, I'd have taken my board and gone to the one ski resort about 30-miles out of town! To each his own, I guess. If I go back I'd probably try to catch some of the rides.
pie-eater 207
Quote: I don't understand the attraction Know what you mean there. I am actually interested in visiting Las Vegas. On the same kind of subject (and this is just coincidence) but I don't particularly see the attraction of all the Japanese flocking to Hawaii. I know a couple who have been twice a year for the last 5 years. They don't seem to be aware that other places overseas exist. As you say though, each to hisher own.
.co.jp 0
>> the shows and people watching A fine place to do those. I spent 6 days there a few years back. Might not ever go back but it was some experience.
thursday 1
Vegas seems so superficial and impersonal. Much like me. No comitments to get into the culture, just use and abuse. Sounds like a good place to explore
Rag-Doll 0
It isn't very big! that is what struck me when I managed a couple of days there a few years ago. The main drag where all the main casinos are is, I don't know, may 1.5-2 km long. I thought it would be bigger. renting a car is good advice, death valley is just down the road as well so lots of non-vegas stuff to see and do and of course the shows! BagOfCrisps 24
What my friend said too - small area and quick to get round. Would like to visit myself, looks like a lot of fun. Even on CSI.
thursday 1
if you like a bit of a European feel to your gambling/sight seeing/hooker experience, Macau is a pretty place. Now that the betting turnover has overtaken Vegas, it's become the gambling capital of the world.
sanjo 2
How far is Macau from HK thursday?
thursday 1
60km, 1 hour by hydrofoil ferry, 20 minutes by helicopter. Makes a good day trip. All that gambling money is coming in from the mainland. Hot dirty money mostly.
Rag-Doll 0
There was an interesting article recently about the very high proportion of the mainland chinese high rollers in Macau who have ended up either being executed, jailed or are in the process of being prosecuted for fraud and embezzlment etc. Can't remember the exact number but 40-50-60% or something like that. Hot dirty money indeed but understandable too...imagine how good it would be if you were able to take your county's entire annual budget and spend it in weekend at Macau on hookers and champagne and if you played your cards right (literally!) you could be back at work on monday with no one any the wiser. Tubby Beaver 209
Is Macau independent from China....or is it kinda like a HK deal?
stemik 14
Macau is one of my favorite places in the entire world. I have never seen as many beautiful human beings in the casino lisboa....obviously most of them were professionals but god they are beautiful.
Rag-Doll 0
Tubbs it has a similar set up to HK. Though I recall the Chinese being not quite a keen to take back Macau as they were to get their hands on HK. The bright lights and bright people of HK obviously had more appeal than a pretty dodgy money laundrying place like Macau. I've only been a couple of times - it really didn't grab me.
