thursday 1
Like to see more details, exactly where, when, the true cost of the runned up bill, and really a Japanes family? More details required before a judgement.
snowdude 44
What ever the case, doing a runner without paying up is not on.
actually 0
Actually, yes, I think there is a 0 missing there. Otherwise, probably not a nice place!!
boardbaka 3
if there was another zero there though you would hope like hell that it was at least a five star !
Tubby Beaver 209
dunno if there was another 0, but it was on the news. According to my gfriend who filled in the blanks for me (as my J-go is kinda limited) it was a Japanese family. It wasn't a 5* place it was a family run Ryokan, why they didn't take money before from them is anyones guess. So even if it was 106k, I'm guessing it was a lot of moey for them
muikabochi 208
Do any accommodation places take money before? I suppose they (anyone) are just not used to this > becomes news.

the snowboarding vicar 1
I sometimes find it hard to believe that some people can live with their own actions. It saddens me.
iiyamadude 6
Not that many cheap cheap places in Nozawa, 106000 for 16 nights sounds like a mistake!
thursday 1
I think there are a number of reasons this family, be they Japanese, Chinese, Burmese, Korean, Thai, Japanese, English, Irish, Scottish, did a runner. It could've been the food, the not so hot water or whatever. You need to take a viewpoint other than the mass media. For goodness sake, they could've been NORTH KOREANS trying to escape the tyranny of the midget perm kingdom.
base40 0
So they stay for 16 days and then do a runner because of the food? Right.....
Yuki's Passion 1
16 days X (maybe) 4 people at an average rate of 8000/day/person would give you just around 500,000 yen. I would sincerely doubt its only 106,000 for a family of (?) 4 people...
HelperElfMissy 42
Anyone thought that they may have paid for some of the total bill in advance - that amount may have been just the amount left owing... I know our hotel in Tokyo had a written policy of asking for payment every 2 days, or at a certain $ amount - we had pre-paid vouchers for the rooms, but we clocked up well over the limit listed,a nd they never asked for it until check out - but having that policy suggests that they have had problems in the past. Not sure why...but most ski holidays we have had needed up front payment of the accomodation. Other vacations no so much...
