  1. One week seems a little short, but unfortunately all laptops use a certain amount of battery even when not used so they will gradually eat the battery up when stored. The more powerful ones eat the battery quicker.
  2. Usually once a week minimum, sometimes everyday when I am at my Nagano house! I love onsen can't go without them now!
  3. There is always a fix for a problem! Just a matter of time until the next big security flaw!
  4. Well I always use Firefox have done for ages now, haven't used IE for years, it seriously is a useless browser full of security holes. Please everyone who is using IE change over to either firefox, Opera or safari, it only takes a few seconds to download and set up and you will be so much more secure and of course have so many more add ons that you can use to customize the browsers with.
  5. In general if it you have skis you need them to be about 10cm shorter than your height. I am about 182cm and my skis are around 170cm. As for boards I have no idea!
  6. Which is why I suggested telephoning the resort. They do say on their website that they have 80cm of snow, whether that is true or not I have no idea!!! Basically which ever resort you go to in Honshu will not have much snow that can be guaranteed at the moment!
  7. I went last year a few times was great powder snow and plenty of it. They are saying they have around 80cm of snow and are part open just two courses at the moment. I went there from January but they are normally open from sometime in November through to about May. You might want call them before you go. Although they are open the courses may or may not suit you, as it is a good 1 hour from Numata IC by car and a lot longer by bus from Joumo kogen station. Here is their website link http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resortdetail.php?resid=15
  8. Ok doesn't matter, I see your point! Not a problem, I will take them off and I might put them on another site if need be.

  12. Well someone here did say that this year would not be a good year in terms of snow....hint hint! Also someone did mention that late December and January would see some good snow falls but otherwise not much before or after.... Let us hope that someone is wrong, but...... looking right at the moment
  13. for a bicyle. As it was such a lovely day I thought I would have a bit of a blast on my bike, and didn't realise until I got home and cheked the speedometer, but I got a maximum speed of 67.5 k/h and that was on a flat road. I thought I was going quite fast as I was over taking several cars going down shin ome kaido here in Tokyo, but didn't realise how fast until I got back. Maybe this speed is not so fast for a road race bike, but I did this on a 6 speed small wheeled folding bike! Sorry just wanted to tell someone else about this!

  15. Wow you must be a gluten for punishment, like the others said forget the local roads, unless you enjoy spending all your holiday just to get there. Best route, go up the Higashi kanto express way, then onto shutoku then connect to kanetsu which will take you all the way up Northern Gunma or even into Niigata.
  16. Not being funny, but if you can afford it between you rent a 4wd with snow tyres. No need to mess about with chains then. I once had a front wheel drive and put snow chains on it, but got stuck, had to get a 4wd to pull us out. After that I bought a 4wd. If of course you plan to just stick to the main routes that are kept fairly clear then snow tyres and chains on a 2wd car will be no problem at all, but if you plan to go off road or down small lanes, then forget 2wd you will get stuck if the snow is anything more than a few inches deep.
  17. How about visiting the following: Asakusa --- visit the shrine and the street leading to it, it is filled with Japanese goods and souvenirs. Shibuya / Harajuku --- You can see all the Tiny boppers and tiny bopper shops, maybe quite interesting if you have never been there Akihabara --- They sell every electronic thing you can think of including thousands of individual components. If you like Nightlife then Roppongi should be the go. Tokyo tower, you can see all of Tokyo and Mount Fuji clearly on a good day. And chances are as you are coming in January the sky will b
  18. A lovely full carbon road bicycle with the dropped handle bars. I saw one in my local shop for 1,000,000 yen, a tad expensive, but if money was no object..... And a very powerful motorbike More realistically though a new set of skis or a much more sensibly priced bicycle or some power tools, to add to my collection. A bunch of gift vouchers for my favourite shop. Clothes from my relatives.........a big big no no or any of the above without first consulting me....I am very choosey about style, colour, functionability, power, etc.
  19. My daughter is only five and of course believes in Santa. I hope she will at least believe in Santa for a few more years yet. I think it is a great time for children and nice for them to have some happy belief for as long as possible.

  21. Never had problems with mine, run all the time. We have corona toyu heaters. Ours are the fully automatic electronically controlled types with a fan and blower as well. Just push the button and they go. I know the older models sometimes would play up. Anyway I am not sure which are the best make, but we were recommended corona when we bought ours.
  22. Have to say I have always been a country boy, was born and raised in the country, but been in Tokyo since I have been in Japan due to work and wife being from Tokyo. But from next year we will be leaving Tokyo and we will be living in the countryside full time, yipee! Tokyo is handy, for many things, but have to say I much prefare the countryside any day. It is amazing how many people love Tokyo, why I will never understand.
