  1. I know someone who still skis on skis from 30 years ago. He is not convinced that changing might be a good idea. Very stubborn. I wonder how much difference he'd notice!
  2. Haven't been for ages. Must be over 6 months since I had an onsen. Could do with one now, though I think the next time will be in Nozawa in January.
  3. Quote: Funny that its because of the problem gaijin, of course not the Japanese tourists. But do Japanese tourists visit it? Like someone else mentioned in the pieces I have seen on tv in the last few days, almost all of the people looking on were foreigners.
  4. Tashiro is definitely the best of Kagura for beginners (once you get past that first bit!)
  5. I found this interesting, posted by SJ#1 in another thead: Quote: In a recent JNTO questionnaire taken between July and September this year (845 respondents), when asked what was the most interesting experience during their visit, a rather large 24.1% of people said the fish market. People were allowed to choose up to 5 things. The top 10 were: 1 Japanese food 2 Traditional buildings 3 Japanese gardens 4 Onsen 5 Shopping 6 Staying at ryokan 7 Pop culture 8 Modern Japanese stuff 9 Fish market 10 Museums Interesting to see Japanese food at the top there
  6. Just reading that The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola will be the most wind tolerant lift at Whistler Blackcomb, able to run in winds up to 80km/hr. The 3S Gondola ensures stability since it travels along two track ropes while being pulled by a third haul rope. Last January, in Whistler Blackcomb’s stormiest month, the Peak elevation at 2,182m/7,160ft only saw two days where winds exceeded 80kms/hour. Comparatively, at the mid-mountain elevation of 1,660m/5,450ft, wind surpassed 50km/hour only six times during the month. The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola is located at 1,850m/6,069ft, an elevation that
  7. X&Y was their best I thought, even though they say it's their worst.
  8. There were over 300 posts yesterday, so it was the other way round!
  9. I think so Mattaus. Not used any other but my small bag is Dakine.
  10. The headaches at work make it all the more important that I enjoy my time off.
  11. Quote: Staying for free (prolly free lift tickets as well) That would be good. I'm just going to have to find some friends like that. I'm looking forward to more holidays as I scale down work.
  12. Lovely place. Scary stuff. "Monstrous Category 5 Hurricane Katrina takes dead aim at New Orleans; direct hit could submerge parts of the city below 25 feet of water and leave over 1 million homeless"
  13. Well I've seen 4 of the 6 now (and re-watched the first one which I thought was the weakest of what I saw). Two of them I thought were really good - the one with Kate Winslet in it was indeed very funny as was the Les Dennis one, and I heard good things about the last one (Patrick Stewart) as well. It takes a bit of getting used to does this one. Anyone else see them>
  14. Just about Italy in general - I've been to Sestriere and Courmayeur ("one of Italy's best and most glamorous ski resorts") - loved both. A friend of mine often goes to Cortina d'Ampezzo as well in the Dolomites.
  15. Damn, there go my winter holidays. I remember a Japanese friend of mine explaining that place as having "really great snow".
  16. Too right. Keep away is the best advice I'm jealous of you in cool-land.
