  1. arghhh something strange is happening. i clicked on the link and it said i wasn't logged in. so i logged in, went to my insider's page and clicked again on the giveaway and it says i'm not logged in. again whats going on?
  2. when i was home last week my sister told me that our old dentist recently died from brain cancer. kinda scary working with radiation. there are some good ones in japan. my friend has had lots of serious work done here bc of problems with a childhood injury. multiple root canels and lots of other painful sounding stuff. but the dude he goes to is good and speaks english and its costing him waaaaay less than it would in the uk.
  3. i learned bridge last year, but haven't played much lately bc our 4th moved back to england. would be nice to play under the kotatsu after a day on the slopes.
  4. thanks for the update barok. zwellie said she has limited internet access so its nice to hear about yalls trip. i'm def jealous yall have already been riding this season.
  5. got this from my friend who teaches in hakuba... ...on my way to school this morning I had to drive through a snow storm, it didnt last very long but its better than nothing...the snow has also crept down the hills and is now at the first chair height on 47 and goryu, so looking good. Those in the know say its gonna dump this weekend and next week...
  6. i've got a couple of hankos- one in kanji that sounds like my last name in j that i use for my bank and another one in romaji that is registered-i used that one for my car title. seems strange to me bc its so much easier to buy someone else's hanko than to do a good forgery.
  7. my fav is liz phair singing turning japanese. i use it a bit too much in vids.
  8. like having miso soup for brekkie in the winter when it comes in a little packet and all you have to do is add hot water. so easy and good. and i like to eat cucumbers and carrots with miso and mayo-- nice healthy snack.
  9. youre kinda close db. the pilgrims came over on the mayflower from england to the new world for the freedom to be puritans. they wanted to land in virginia where there already was a english colony (where pocahontas hung out). but they got way off course and landed in massachusetts. so they had no idea how to survive off the land and some native americans (squanto i think was one) showed them how to plant stuff like corn, squash, and other north american veggies. lots of pilgrims died that winter from the cold and hunger. the remaining ones were grateful for a bountiful harvest the followi
  10. yeah i wonder about his kids. do you think he really is their caregiver or does someone else do that and they are just brought out for publicity stunts like when he was in berlin? bc the masks/scarves thing is freaky. those kids are probably going to be way ****ed up when they are older.
  11. didn't yall see the interview with the british dude? i watched it again just the other day and the shot of jacko being interviewed with his 12yr old friend was v disturbing. jacko often calls him and his sister on the phone. this boy admitted to sleeping in jacko's bed. and during part of the interview he's holding jacko's hand and resting his head on jacko's shoulder with a very dreamy look in his eyes. it totally freaks me out.
  12. i usually put a bit of lemon juice on cut-up apples to keep them from going brown, but here they use salt. my grandmother would always put salt on grapeftuit. but i prefer sugar on it.
  13. i saw the monkees a way long time ago. i realize they could never be classified as a great band, but i used to like their tv show and i wanted to hear their songs. instead, the members took turns doing their solo stuff, which sucked, for most of the show.
  14. i don't go much during the week, but quite a few times on weekends.
  15. hey- yeah definitely come to the nagano ski trip!! it's a blast! though happo does become a bit crowded with gaijin. if that's not your thing, you could go up to cortina or another resort nearby for the day. i'm on the nagano ajet and we're getting the guys who organize the nagano footy tournament (jon, phil, and andre) to do the ski trip for us (like they've done the past two years). last year, i just stayed in snowbeds- good way to save money and enjoy the party. but the pensions they use are a bit closer to the slopes and the club. you can check out the website for more info.
  16. O11- I've had a Salon subscription since they started it about 2 years ago. i think its worth it bc i like not having the ads and acess to all the articles. at first, i didn't want to pay, but too many articles i wanted to read were premium only. and i don't think their quality has gone down.
  17. um, i think the q needs to be rephrased. wouldn't you "look at" porn pics like on the web or print (ie porn manga or playboy, etc) and "watch" porn videos either on the web or on tv? for me, still pics are just kinda amusing and gross, but movies can be a bit more interesting
  18. school lunch for me- oden, black-eyed lima beans, whole fish with eggs in the belly, and rice. it was pretty good.
  19. damn that sad that the pic gotten worse. where is the snow?????
  20. interesting day to pick. it's the day after thanksgiving-- the "official" start of the christmas season. most people have the day off and everyone and their mother spends it shopping for xmas presents at the mall. when i was little it was the day i would go see santa at the big miller & rhodes dept store in richmond (bigger city than where i grew up.) i can see since it is a big shopping day to try to get people to buy nothing, but it would be easier to get participation on some random day. but i guess it would have less impact then.
  21. cigarettes and second hand cars are waaaaaay cheaper than back home. also getting an average meal at a restaurant is pretty cheap.
  22. it only takes a couple of minutes to make some toast with jam. or you can buy some apples at the grocery store and eat at home or take them with you. v easy and healthy brekkies. And aren't there a few hidden bagel shops in tokyo? or at least in roppongi?
  23. I really enjoyed Steve Martin in All of me and parenthood. Can't stand Robin Williams when's trying to be funny. Prefer him in roles like dead poets society, good will hunting.
  24. sorry typo- i meant to say that i like to wear a tie as a belt.
