One of McConkey's new skis has a reverse camber kind of like a water ski. - I cant see it taking off in New Zealand (and the east of canada & us)but if the man says it works in Alaska then I'll believe him. -

jared replied to nzlegend's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry

did you work between highschool and uni?
jared replied to amandanism's topic in General off-topic discussions
the answer you want is this (or you wouldent have posted it on SNOWjapan) you need to go skiing/boarding full time for a while. if you have plenty of money you can do it the easy way and if not you may have to work nights to fund it. you finish school in may so you can still get to canada or the usa for a month or two of spring skiing - then in june you can do a summer camp on a glacer somewhere and practice halfpipe etc.. Then july will see you going to NZ or south america or OZ if your desperate for more of the same till October when, if your in NZ you will shift from the south island to t -
I have stopped looking longingly at planes and wishing I was going somewhere more interesting than home.

jared replied to bong's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I like it - at Geto there is a singles line with no one in it so I (and a couple of friends) can walk straight to the front of the line and all fit into a gondola which only has 3 people in it. -

Fattwins, tell us about your skis - is their much difference in between your 1080s and you LBFs - I have Candides and am thinking about getting something fatter and longer for big pow days and trips to hakkoda but I would love a informed opionion of weather I shouild bother as I'm not having any trouble with my skis in the pow at the moment - as long as I remember to lean back a little to compensate for the centre mount. -
To stop wasting time on forums and study japanese, ski, go to the gym, eat properly, pay of my student loan and get much drunker next new years eve - starting Monday.

Are lessons worth it?
jared replied to meatpole's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
unless your friends have been taught to instruct ignore them and pay for lessons - its worth it. -
Veronica - I don't think Fattwins was suggesting that the entire resort be changed into a bunk room, I think he was suggesting that they could provide both - the cheaper option being in the closed down portion which the well healed are no longer useing. Closing parts down makes no sence to me as they then recieve no return instead of making it cheaper and more basic and recieving at least some money for it.

At the risk of sounding a little misogynistic (excuse this filthy colonials spelling) Why do woman wear perfume and make up? Cos they smell bad and they're ugly. I’m sure this doesn’t apply in this case though.

Never skiied in Powder
jared replied to rena_bena's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Powder generally = trees and most ski instructors would get hung drawn and quatered for taking a client in the trees. Remember to stand on both feet evenly not just your outside ski like normal or that one foot will sink. Dont try and jump up, push down like a trampolene.
