  1. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. It works, though it may take awhile depending on the condition. Do a web search for "tinnitus acupuncture" to read more about it.
  2. Ocean you're starting to talk a little bit like Cheeseman..... have you been taking lessons?
  3. I saw that one yesterday from another source. I guess it's going around Tokyo at the moment... very funny
  4. Oh yeh, I forgot to add that one, Mogs - not sleeping the nite before is very helpful...... Instead of earplugs I have noise cancelling headphones. They're great - you can also plug them into the plane's audio and actually hear the movie properly (well, the movie you decide to watch AFTER you've slept of course....)
  5. I read a bit about that in a book called Speed Tribes, which documents the shadow side of Japan, though there was nothing about rape. (The author probably wasn't aware). However it did go into some of the scams and the easy street life the students have and how inept they usually are (and these are the people who eventually run this country). Basically Waseda is the Uni everyone wants to get into cos it's the most prestigious. Many politicians and company presidents and other high ranking business people come from there. As a Waseda graduate you're automatically better than graduates from an
  6. Get an inflatable neck pillow, inflatable back rest, down 3 melatonin, wear eye shades and don't watch any movies. This has enabled me to actually get around 4 hours sleep on planes, a feat I've never been able to do before.
  7. Start worrying if you discover they're using DU-tipped ammunition.
  8. Take the job and then make sure that you're only cooking evening meals so you have your days free. If they complain tell them that daytime meals are beneath your level of Chefmanship.
  9. I totally agree with the air cons adding extra heat. It's always hotter and more sweltering in the central part of town than even just a little further out.
  10. Hi Ender, How's life in post Japan going? Yeh, what happened with that? I was actually going to hand you a CDR before you left but we never got to hook up again. No worries - there's a few people around here and other places who have asked to hear stuff so I'm going to put up a couple of sound files before too long so I'll let you know when. Just trying to sort out the best place to put them for now... until I've figured out where to leave them more permanantly (such as mp3.com, my own site, or wherever).
  11. It's an interesting topic for a musician, that's for sure. Personally I don't think it's a bad thing. Of course it's nice to get paid for my works, and I guess if the whole planet decided to pirate everything I do it's going to be harder to make a decent living from it (not that I currently am, but that is my aim), but I don't think that's ever going to be the case. I think there are always going to be people who want to pay, whether to support the musicians or simply because they are audiophiles and want to own the CD with the real liner notes, etc. I think it's important that music get
  12. Hi Rach, Oops, a late reply.... Like you I'm also fascinated by the different ways people write songs. I have a few different ways of writing, but this is kinda long so skip thru if you're not interested. One way I write is sitting down at the piano or keyboard and just playing around, improvising, I guess, with nothing in mind and not trying anything in particular, just seeing where things might go, and at some point an idea might start to emerge, in which case I'll either notate it out, or turn on the recorder and record the bits I might be interested in keeping. Anyway,

  14. Stop Press: Just happened to see this: On the main page of ipodhack.com DASmart iPod Battery Replacement posted by blakespot on Wednesday, June 04, 2003 - 09:10 AM EDT You have seen us speak, on several occasions, of the plight of the deminishing capacity of the iPod's lithium-polymer battery, over time. My old trusty 5GB iPod, just over a year and a half old, had gotten to the point of lasting less than two hours on a full charge. Maddening. Well, I have just given my trusty friend a new lease on life. We had the chance, over the weekend, to check out PDASmart's
  15. Hey Danz, I'm not sure about the new iPods, but some of the older ones (perhaps mainly the first generation?) had problems with battery life. I used to have a 5 gig model and I was getting only about 3 hours max, but you really need to keep topping them up and not running them all the way down as much as possible and they should last ages. I think mine had been run down all the way a number of times and that somehow affected the battery life. The later iPod software updates have improved the battery life, and there's a way of resetting that is supposed to help also for some. And it's
  16. I might have to revert to a desktop again till they bring out the G5 powerbooks..........
  17. An old album by David Sylvian's band, Japan, called Tin Drum comes to mind. And Vangelis' China, though that's definitely not cheesy or pop. And another pop song, 80s, called Sue Sue Sushi, damned if I can remember the name of band, but I know I would if I heard it.
  18. Hey SF I've seen fireflies in the Blue Mountains...... so they do exist in Oz
  19. So if your allowance is 40 and you were 15 over last time, does that mean you're up to 55? Also look into the possibility of sending unaccompanied baggage. Not totally cheap, but might be cheaper than paying excess.
  20. Wow, I had no idea it snowed down there. I was told that it was warmer than Tokyo. Guess that wasn't the mountains..... Ocean, Shikoku's beautiful. As you can see I don't know anythiing about the snow season, as I've only ever been there in warmer weather, but I'm sure you'll love it. Just watch out for the typhoons that pass thru.....
  21. I've done a bit of extra work here in the past, but not for a few years. They get away with murder in Japan when it comes to ripping off eager foreigners! As people have already said, in the west anyway, the union won't allow extras to have speaking parts. They would need to be paid a different rate. However, in Japan, or at least from the extra company I've done some work with, it seems that you get paid the same amount whether you speak or don't speak. Well, for foreigners working with this one agency anyway. I think they've decided that the extras will be happy to speak if as
  22. Our 6 piece funk/pop band became a 9 piece for the Mastercard sponsors party on the night before the final. (2 extra singers and horn section). It was a pretty intense month. We had a lot of material to learn and quite a few rehearsals, so this got us all caught up in World Cup fever. And on the night itself, well, what can I say, Pele was there in the audience watching us, cool! We also played (as a 7 piece) for a party for Adidas who were camped out at the Prince Hotel in Naeba doing their pre-production World Cup 'Fever' thang.... we were told we weren't allowed to wear sports shoes
  23. I spent a night in Takayama some years ago in late autumn, what I remember of it is lovely. Yes, Zwells, those canals too....
