  1. What's travel time like from Gifu city by car? By bus/train? Thanks
  2. Anyone live in or nearby Gifu city? What are your impressions? How far and by what kind of transport to the nearest decent hill? Can you get anywhere without a car? How about nightlife? Thanks
  3. Akibun, the most common here is just America. No one says "The States" unless you are not in The States.
  4. I don't see anything wrong with them bringing the laptop with them to copy the pics off of the camera. It's not like they won't ever be in the room. I think it may be quite expensive and time consiuming to try to email home digital video over a dial up connection though.
  5. If you think any of us are going to believe it is anything other than a coincidence you've got another thing coming.
  6. Wow S_F_G sounds like a tourist pamphlet. Sounds like a great city after that nice list that Deebee gave us in the "Lock your Skis" thread. Actually my Dad just got back from Sydney and he raved about it. Said I would really like it.
  7. I am open to the idea of gearing a resort to snowboarders, Ocean, but why actually ban skiers. How about just marketing the resort that way and setting up events and terrain that attract snowboarders.
  8. You could spend a good day doing trendy things if you get off the train in Harajuku, walk around there for a few hours then walk down to Shibuya and spend a few hours there. I did it on crutches so it can't be that long of a walk even if it is a couple stops down. As for food..ha! Have fun. I had a great time because I love Japanese food (even though I don't eat beef or pork). But if you are a vegetarian you will be struggling. Especially if you don't eat seafood. I knew a little Japanese at the time but not really enough to hold a conversation. The friend I was with was fluent
  9. Ohh! Look at those mountains! How I love Whistler! Should be there in December...if I'm not in Japan by then.
  10. I agree. I snowboard and have no problem with skiers. How lame would it be if your buddy, or girlfriend was a skier and the resort you wanted to go to didn't allow it. I would be less likely to go to a "Snowboard Only" resort because I wouldn't want to support that elitist behavior.
  11. Never heard of any. I found it pretty interesting, though, that the indoor place in Tokyo spilt up the day so skiers and boarders were never on the snow (or whatever it is) at the same time. Only in Japan.
  12. I will probably get laughed off the forum for this, but I saw the Blair Witch Project at a sneak preview 2 weeks before it came out. It was way low budget and there was no hype at all. Some people had heard this or that but on all acounts it was totally real. It was awesome and totally scary. I stayed through to the end of the credits though where it says its fake, so it wasn't long lasting fear, but suspenseful as all hell during the movie. Then as you probably know the movie came out and made a bajillion dollars and got picked apart to the point where everyone going to see it knew it wa
  13. Whattya teachin her?! try this: Person: "Great snow isn't it?" Echineko: "Damn straight! Let's hit this sheeeit!" Word
  14. I seem to be the opposite. It doesn't bother me through the end of Spring and Summer. But come Late August I start to itch and the Fall is pure torture waiting for the chairs to start running.
  15. Wow. I have totally never heard of wearing wrist guards for snowboarding. I wouldn't have even thought their purpose was to protect from broken bones. My snowboarding injuries: Badly dislocated elbow 3 seasons ago - 3 weeks out (2 in a sling). Never fully healed. Sprained shoulder 2 seasons ago - 1 week out. Full recovery. And then the bad boy. Last day I rode a snowboard was mid March of this year. Epic powder day. Riding with a few pros and strugglin to keep up. Comin down through a pretty steep section goin real fast, came up over a bluff and hit a tree at about 4
  16. For getting down a particular trick check out that website that was posted earlier. I think it was snowboardingmotion.com. They totally break down the trick and show you examples. The best of what little advice I can give you on the half pipe is to practice. Just ride as much as you can and you will get better. It doesn't take very long of riding slowly through the half pipe before you start to get a feel for it. I am by no means a great pipe rider though, but I can ride it. Just get a lot of speed and don't feel intimidated by the people watching you. Jumping: Remember to jum
  17. All right I'll throw in...May be 10 months late but what the hell. Board: OPTION!! Gotta sing praises for the best snowboard maker of all time here for a second OPTION!! ahhhh. This year I am riding the Signature 161. A bigger board than I am used to (Been riding a 157) and I am looking forward to it, oh yeah. Bindings: Ride Teams Boots: Salomon Malamutes (Although I may go boot shopping before the season begins) Gogs: Oakley A-Frames Gloves: Had particulary good luck with Burtons. I am really suprised that Snowboard_Freaks_Girl (great handle BTW) is into FLOW.
  18. Here here. My take on Snowboard Patrol: There are plenty of boarder patrollers runnin around the hills of the Cascades. But in order to be a boarder patrol you also have to be a competent skier. Why is that? You must be on skis to carry the sled. It is just not possible on a snowboard, and this is the main duty of the patrol; to carry injured people safely down the hill. But most of the time the patrollers are boarding or skiing around, setting up fences or checking for exposed stumps or rocks. As for patrollers chasing those goin out of bounds or pulling tickets, I have neve
  19. Deebee - what is your email address? I want to ask you about something off thread but the forum software isn't letting me. You can email ryland@enderzero.net.
  20. While you are going on about completely inane subjects, did anyone notice that the date a couple days ago, 10.01 2002 was the first double palindromic date where the first set was exactly half the second set since 4.24 848. Let's take a moment to reflect on whats happenned in the last 1154 years, shall we.
  21. Ocean, sounds like a scene from about any Japanese movie. Helmets will soon be law I believe. Already you need them to run most competitions. The Advanced park at Whistler/Blackcomb now requires them too. I have a K2 that I run from time to time. Not particular to it though. I'll wear it on a huge pow day that I think could take me far into the back country. My buddy got saved big time on a jib day when a rail slide went bad and he smacked his head. Luckily he was sporting the lid that day.
  22. Maybe a good equivalent for boarders is riding one foooted. You can bust out cool moves like locking your leg straight out in the air in front of you and grabbing your foot. Sounds weird but it turns heads. The more I think about it the more ridiculous it sounds...but so is skiing backwards for that matter.
  23. I like cheese, but didn't really realize how much until I saw you added Cottage Cheese to the poll. Thx Cheesman, I love cottage cheese. Try it with canned pears or applesauce. All right Cheesman! In ALL SERIOUSNESS... I know you like cheese...but is it really all that nutritious? Most cheeses are actually very high in saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium. Are you sure the 'nutritious' thing isn't just wishful thinking?...or have you been brainwashed by the Dairy Farmers of America?
