Board advice
lin replied to Mantas's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I have Dynafit and they are indeed being light and soft. I like the touring boots. The thing I dislike most about skiing is the boots. I have the best fit I can get but still at the end of the day my feet are relieved. -
Niseko Probs

I think it would be quite obvious that some local places get overlooked for the gaijin places - for a start the language issue and the presence back home. -
Donation to the bukatsu of the local school
lin replied to mina2's topic in General off-topic discussions
Why are they asking you anyway, are you totally un-connected to the school? -
Kyoto - as great as the reputation or over-rated?

I was lucky to be taken around for a friend - someone who knows it well. I can imagine it makes a big difference. -

2006/2007 Retrospect Thread
lin replied to SirJibAlot's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Quote: When most gaijin living in Japan only consider visiting the main/bigger resorts, it is hard to imagine that people from overseas will come and visit those smaller ones. Thats what I wanted to say. -

Imagine the effort needed to get the message out over Niseko and the other places that are busy pushing themselves on the foreigner. Imagine the local staff at the smaller resort who have hardly ever seen a foreigner on the slopes and the management who are not entirely convinced or interested and not prepared to spend much money if any. More foreigners will end up at more smaller resorts, but the numbers are not going to be anywhere near big enough for them to completely change the way they do things. -

Quote: It closes in mid-winter usually I believe What is the reason for that - snow blocking the route? -

The foreign market will be important for the main resorts, but for the majority of them it will be irrelevant. -
Hey Mantas yes you didn't tell us about the "stealing the torch" story yet

Good movies you've seen recently
lin replied to yamayamayama's topic in General off-topic discussions
I feel like I've seen that with all the trailers and hype. Just doesn't interest me. I recently saw all the Dirty Harry movies with Clint. First one is really great, the sequels more of a mixed bunch. But Clint is often worth a watch. -
It sure is, but thats effectively what Apple want you to be. Enough motivation to look elsewhere if you ask me. I may be mistaken but they don't seem to be innovating with the ipod as much as they could and other manufacturers are with their machines. I'd take a look at Creative as well.

Yes great photos there SirJibAlot.

My friend has given me a few cds by Faithless and I am really enjoying them, the best of is probably the (er) best. -
Some of what he said "You had a hundred billion chances and ways to have avoided today ... Now you have blood on your hands that will never wash off." "You just loved to crucify me. You loved inducing cancer in my head, terror in my heart, ripping my soul." "Your Mercedes wasn't enough, you brats. Your golden necklaces weren't enough, you snobs. Your trust fund ... your vodka and cognac wasn't enough. All your debaucheries weren't enough ... to fulfil your hedonistic needs." "When the time came, I did it. I had to."
