Which resorts have machines that check your tickets before getting on a lift?? Are there many? I certainly haven't noticed many.

Usually the first time they see me I notice them looking, but after that... ETC machines? Where's that then?

A bit of a dark subject, sorry. One of my friend's mother just died this last week and they suddenly went back home of course. It was a major headache and of course a very sad and tiring time for her.. . it got me thinking about what I would go home for and how bad I'd feel in her situation. In her case, her mother died quite suddenly, but if she was just ill for a long time etc, it must be really difficult. What has anyone else done in similar circumstances?

Whats the best famiresu do you reckon? I like Gusto, very reasonable, and the newly done up ones are nice. I also went to a good one called Ms Dining. Can't remember if that was in Nagano or Niigata.

Since my childhood when we had some ducks in our garden pond and kept some hens as well I've always loved birds - magnificent creatures. Someone sent me a film/documentary DVD called Winged Migration recently and must say it is excellent. Some amazing photography of birds doing their migrating thing. Highly recommended Kando-teki!!

I do a lot of impulse buying, seemingly more and more lately. I'm getting a bit worried about it.... for a few seconds then I feel all good and gooey insider again. Tell me I'm not the only immature impulse buyer here....

Yuzawa isn't just Gala though. Another 15 minutes bus ride and there's some other places in the town that are still really good then - Kagura, Mitsumata/Tashiro, Naeba (just bit further), Kandatsu near town.
