Blow out cost of accommodation
gamera replied to Fossil's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
You had better make everything clear by asking directly to the accommodation. Reputations sometimes work, but different people tell you different things so you always have to be the person to judge the stuff. While you talk with the accommodation staffs asking this and that beforehand you'll get the atomosphere you'll get later when you stay there, I guess. Good luck -

He can not be a sumo wrestler if he is bald. A sumo wrestler has to have enough hair to make that kind of hair style which is mandatory.

As far as you don't speak Japanese, you need some English speaking instructors, right? I have been working to persuade it to many ski resorts, ski schools here. But still not all of them have some. If you come to Hakuba, I think you can get all what you need. Unfortunately I don't know other area enough , can't go observing something in winter coz of my job.

This years "heavy" snow
gamera replied to 7-11's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
They say the average temperture in December was 2.6 - 2.8 C less than usual in many places in Japan. And when the cold air from Syberia comes over Japan sea, it's like to get in sauna because the water temperture of Japan sea is usually 10C even in winter while the cold air is like minus 30-40C. And !!!!!! this winter the Japan sea water temperture seems to be warmer than 10C that's one of reason why Japan has gotten this much snow, they say. As 7-11 says, sometimes snow this year feels heavier than usual when I remove but sometimes opposite. It's not easy to remove snow once dropped -

Hawaii50 Try Jordan for transportation search Shinkansen = 'New main route' if I dare translate as it is described. Because usually where a shinkansen is built, usually an old main route exists. Any kind of trains e.g. locals, expresses, freight trains and night trains are in service at an old main route but at a shinkansen, only super limited express trains are in service. -
Snow Chains V tires
gamera replied to farquah's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
If your care were a 4WD one, I think snow tyres are your choice. The other day someone from Saitama needed me to help them. His car got stuck and could not go ahead or backwards at all. It wore a set of stadless tyres but it was a 2WD (FR) one. I pulled it by my pajero to get it in my parking. But it even could not go when he turned the wheel a lot. I adviced him to do that slightly little by little to go on. So just for a reference, probably you had better have both, I guess. -
Been godamn busy to remove this much snow. Am almost dying Hope everyone has good time!
