Kumapix 0
Thursday, to shoot nudes (or portraits) you have to learn about flashes (power & placement, syncing etc) and poses. It's alot harder than it seems

Kumapix 0
and since when do hot chicks pose for nude photography lessons??? I bet all you get are grandmas, grandpas and students who couldn't get other jobs
spook 0
yeah, but maybe that's what thursday is into
thursday 1
yeah, maybe the students.
soubriquet 0
The D40 has arrived. Charging up right now.
grungy-gonads 54
Unwrap it slowly. Enjoy it. For from now, forever more, it is USED. Just kidding. Really hope you enjoy it!
soubriquet 0
I savoured the moment. It's only my fourth camera, and the second new one.
soubriquet 0
OK. I've managed to navigate my way in and change the language settings, no problem. What I really need is the full manual in English. Anyone know of a site where I can get a pdf of the Nikon manual? Google isn't taking me to Nikon (yet).
bushpig 0
Don't know of a site Soub, but the camera shop can order one in for you free of charge cos you bought the camera.
miller 1
I phoned Nikon and got me to send one (not got it yet). (I can't cope with online manuals and printing them out, want the little one). Cost me 700 yen.
soubriquet 0
Thanks team. I prefer the paper book too. Anyway, it's up and running. Just love it when you press the button and it goes snap, instead of "wait tumpty tum, wait tra la".
bushpig 0
yeah, that is awesome after the annoyance of the little point and shoot digis!
miller 1
I actually thought asking for 700 yen was rather "ketchi" after spending all that money on the camera, but I wanted it so went down the po to get the required cheques.
bushpig 0
yeah that is a bit ketchi. Did you ask at the store, or just rang direct and that's what they told you? I got mine for free when I bought the camera. Took a week or two to get it.
Kumapix 0
Soubs don't bother with the manual. It's a complete waste! you're better off getting the thom hogan ebook & printing it out. He goes through all of the functions and tells you when you need to use it and how you should use it. The manual tells gives a cryptic explanation for the functions but nothing on when to use and how to get the best results. but anyways, for easy great results just chuck it on 'p' and shoot away
miller 1
Unless you want to bother with it of course. I started printing out some ebook and decided that it was not only a waste of a lot of paper and ink but it was pretty much all the same. I will enjoy having the official manual and will back that up with some online reading when I'm sat at my pc. I also got the "Magic Lantern" guide for the D200 which seems ok. Not really spent much time on it yet.
Kumapix 0
d40 manual can be dl'd here: http://support.nikontech.com/cgi-bin/nik...=187&p_cv=1.
soubriquet 0
Thanks again. I found a pdf at Nikon USA, but it isn't printable. I'll look for thom hogan. I've put the D40 alongside my Pentax MX, and the Nikon is bigger, but a lot lighter.
miller 1
Do any of you guys have one of those dry cabinet things? I was reading the cost in electricity is 1 yen a day. I suppose though that you'd only really need it on during rainy season / summer / mid-winter... or maybe not? All year?
Kumapix 0
we talked about them a couple of pages ago
Kumapix 0
soubs, seriously you don't need one to print. just play with the camera and when u can't figure something out just look at the manual on your comp.
miller 1
Must have missed that. All I remember (and saw just before) was talk of one of you having boxes and a cabinet costing a few man. No real talk about them. It's open to other people as well
Kumapix 0
yeah, that's all it was basically. It's just a box to keep the humidity down to prevent mold from growing in your lenses/camera and it helps with dust too. One's plastic with silica gel packs that you replace and the other is a cabinet that runs on electricity. One's 2000-something yen and the other goes from 2man and up.
miller 1
Thanks. Is there much benefit to the electricity one apart from looking good (and not needing to replace silical gel packs!)?
