snowdude 44
If you go to the big electric shops they are all the same regardless to wetjeor not it is a Dell, Sony or whatever they are all bundled with rubbish no one wants. If you go to a specialist computer shop they have computers from the manufacturers with nothing on them not even the operating system. Then you ask them to instal the operating system you want and the software you want. Costs more but you can get exactly what you want.
Hokkaidough 4
My Dell was not bundled with any rubbish at all.
snowdude 44
I am guessing you bought your Dell at a small local shop and not from one of the big Yamada Denki type places?
Hokkaidough 4
I bought it from Dell.
Tubby Beaver 209
Why does it cost more to have less shite on it?!
klingon 10
This may not always be the case but....makers get paid to add software to a new PC. Often it's trial period kind of stuff, so the software dudes hope to get a paid up from the end user etc. I have never bought a Dell from anyone other than direct from Dell, but they have not been loaded we junk at all. snowdude 44
Why does it cost more to have less shite on it?! Actually yes it does in a lot of cases, because the big shops buy things in bulk to receive a big discount, but as part of that deal the computers have to have lots of demo software installed, basically so the manufacturer can get there money back through users signing up/installing full working versions of their software. If you go to a small local shop or for example a Dell only shop or a Hewlet Packard (or however it is spelled) only shop then their computers will not be bundled with junk that know one wants, in most cases they will install only what you want. Same if you order direct from them by internet. As a result though they tend to be more expensive as these shops only stock a few computers of each model, instead of thousands. grungy-gonads 54
Yes, stock is severely limited buying directly from Dell... on the internet.
Tubby Beaver 209
My laptop is HP......getting on a bit now and frustratingly slow at times....I may have to buy another one soon....if I can stop buying snowboards!!
oo 1
The speed up is definitely great. I literally turned my old one on and then went to make a cup of coffee, so long did it take. This one is up and running in seconds.

Wizz 11
I remember one I used to have. At the end of the day, instead of turning it off, I instructed it to reboot. Just about started up again in time for my morning emails!
muikabochi 208
On the subject of computers. Yesterday when I was checking a few things I was told that my Windows was not "activated". Click on the activate button and it was saying that the product key was already in use on another machine. Cheeky buggers! Dell wouldn't help. Microsoft asked me all sorts of questions that I didn't know the answer to - like what version was installed when I bought the machine, yeah Iike I remember that stuff - but eventually gave me some long code to enter.... and it worked. Bloody annoying though.
klingon 10
I had that experience once. Very frustrating.
pie-eater 207
I can just imagine what you got from Dell: 'nowt to do with us laddy jim' And Microsoft with robotic answers and questions that have little to do with what you asked or said. I remember once I had a similar kind of funky thing going on with Office. Somehow it deregistered itself or something and I had to call them up. It was a nightmare. Huge amounts of fannying about. Oh yes, that was not fun. Hope you got it all sorted though.
muikabochi 208
Yes it was something like that pie-eater. She kept on asking me which exact version was installed when I got the computer. I told her I wasn't sure. She asked again using exactly the same words. I told her I wasn't sure. Repeat that a few times. Robotic indeed. Eventually I took a guess and gave her an answer, otherwise I wouldn't have got past that. Luckily it did seem to work. How many people remember or even understand that kind of stuff?
