frannyo 2
Arenthere any of the old style noisy flashing lights pachinko parlours where you are (those in Japan of course). It seems almost without me noticing, and only on my dad asking are they still around, that there aren't any left in my area. The pachinko places are a much less gaudy now. snowdude 44
We have Pachinko here in Kofu, but not noisy flashing ones, just the regular ones
muikabochi 208
There are no noisy and flashing ones in Yuzawa, Shiozawa or Muikamachi. A few large ones have opened in the last few years near Muikamachi IC on Route 17, but they are much more subdued. Can't place any in Yuzawa now.
kokodoko 67
you mean they used to be noisier and gaudier? How is that possible.???
sanjo 2
Here in Sanjo area as well the loud flashing places are gone. The few that remain are large places and much more tasteful, for want of a better word. I don't know if it's been some change in regulations or just a trend. Good one though, those old fashioned places were just awful.
Chriselle 158
Ya..some of them now are hard to distinguish if they are a Pachinko parlor or some new small shopping center.
NoFakie 45
Yes, it seems like the ones with five hundred multicoloured light bulbs on the front are a thing of the past. A big car park seems to be the most important thing now. I've seen several new ones not so far from here so there's still plenty of money in it.
SKI 15
Interesting. I had not really noticed this change, but now you come to mention it....
Chriselle 158
I loved the ones with the 1,000,000 candle watt power spot on the roof shooting straight up into space....
grungy-gonads 54
Come to think of it......... there are much less of the bright gaudy flashing places than there used to be. The ones with lights shooting up were cool though. Bet you could see them from space.
Tubby Beaver 209
There was one of those old style ones near the school I went to today....it was daytime though so I didn't get to see all those lights lit up
ProbablyaCrazyPerson 2
Has the game itself changed at all?
Karnidge 2
There's still the 'remains' of a few of the noisy kind around where I live. They do look very out of place. Always wondered what the laws are regarding buildings that are finished and falling into disrepair. Actually sounds like a thread.
Karnidge 2
I went and did it http://www.snowjapanforums.com/index.php/topic/23184-buildings-that-are-wasting-away/
BagOfCrisps 24
Do many gaijin play pachinko?
ProbablyaCrazyPerson 2
Many people I know have tried it once and then not again
Tubby Beaver 209
That's me! My mate loved it tho, he'd play all the time
Chriselle 158
Played it once 20 years ago. Put in I think 500 yen and ended up making 8000 yen in about 10 minutes. Quit while I was ahead.
DumbStick 13
Sounds like you should have continued!!
Chriselle 158
Nah...seemed like everyone in there was on a slow morphine drip...weirded me out.
Slippery Jim 65
You should've played it when it was real, none of this automatic crap. You had to slip the balls into the slot one by one and flip the shooting lever by hand -- real pachinko! And you damn kids get off my lawn, anyway...
@tokyo 14
You still play DiGriz?
Slippery Jim 65
Nah, tried it twice back in those days. It took a certain amount of skill & hand/eye coordination as a manual game but got old quickly.
Metabo Oyaji 71
Nah...seemed like everyone in there was on a slow morphine drip...weirded me out. I also tried it once about 20 years ago, lost a few hundred yen, and didn't see the point. Saw others sitting on their seats like zombies, cigarettes in hand, with gum wrappers wedged in the auto-fire knob to hold it at whatever magic setting they thought was generating wins for them.
