The 'why do people do that' thread?

Recommended Posts

Just two things today

Went to the cinema. It was probably 10% full. ie. nearly empty.

My friend and I had actually booked tickets yesterday to be on the back row in the middle. Good place. Hardly anyone around.

Then this woman comes up and plonks herself right next to me! Now I know we have seat numbers..... but come on!!!

Then there was this woman a few rows in front of me who seemed to feel the need to check her telephone messages (or something) literally every 2-3 minutes.

I get way too easily annoyed watching a movie.

I like to go when it's been out a while to try and avoid those annoyances.

I went once last year when me and my friend were the only ones in there... private screening!

I swear I say..."WTF is wrong with people"....at least 10 times a day. Being a hyper vigilant grumpy old man means I walk around grumbling all day long. My wife is a real trooper for putting up with me and my ranting.

I dislike listening to other people eating noisily like some kind of ravenous pig at the best of times.

I can't help it.

But it just drives me nuts in the cinema. Along with rustling packets of crisps packets. Usually in quiet scenes.

I think I am turning into a grumpy old WTF-er also!

Could you not move over one or two seats rach?

I would, with a frown and a little exasperated 'tsch' sound ;)

I cracked the sh1ts with a pushy Brit in rental skis who shoved his skis not only on top of my board in the lif queue numerous times, but under it also. I started a loud enough to be heard conversation with PB about being confused by the need of people to be so impatient in lift queues...that I like to be chilled and zen and just take in the majesty and peacefulness when I am in the mountains... And that I really love my board and while I don't mind if it get damagd by a tree, but I drawn the line at people damaging it in the lift queue because they are impatient. He backed off. :D

went t see a movie one night and there was 3 seats left next to me 2 old people decided to sit right next to me not leave the one seat in between but right next to me.

The worst thing was his jumper stank of mothballs so I had to tell him and they moved the one seat over :) slightly embarrassed.

These people aren't even aware of there surroundings and I think as I get older I notice that some people are just thick

Right now, there are turkeys in Tesco going for 3.99 per kilo. That's less than half price.

I don't think there'll be any takers.

Why is that?

I would think it would be the perfect time to buy a turkey and cook up a grand old feast...

Not that I am a turkey at Christmas girl anyway (ham is more traditional in my family) - so I don't usually associate turkey with Christmas fare.

What about mobile phone etiquette at the cinema.

Do you turn your phone to silent? Or off?

I flick to silent (being a Mum it is always on) and if I have to check it make sure I shield the glare from other patrons.

It's just the right thing to do, no?

But heaps of people USE and answer their phones in the middle of a movie. What are they thinking?!

Why do people enter our Giveaways and then claim their tickets (all good up until now) and then don't bother giving us a proper full postal address to send the thing to?

It comes back to us as undeliverable.

The way I see it, it's not our job to mind-read postal addresses -- and I'm sure that if I won something, I'd be make sure that I provided a proper address to claim the prize.

Seems common sense to me.

New lucky person being contacted today with one that just bounced back.

On the highway a few hundred metres back from the turnoff to our nursery there's big signs saying 'Native Plant Farm Turnoff 300m'. Before getting to the entry to the nursery itself there's a couple of signs on the way with the name of our nusery, the logo (gum leaves) and a description 'Specialising in Indigenous and Native Plants'. Basically I think it's pretty obvious we grow and sell native plants. And yet we have plenty of people come in asking if we sell all kinds of exotic species. It takes a reasonable amount of control on my part not to just look at them incredulously and ask if they are complete idiots.

Another thing is that on Tuesdays we are closed to the public but I generally head in and work for the day. As most of our business is large wholesale orders there's always plenty to do regardless of whether we open the retail section. Anyway at the turnoff from the highway there's a pretty big sign that has open or closed on it and there's another one at the entrance to the driveway into the nursery again with open or closed on it and finally an open or closed sign on the gate into the retail section. So 3 signs all up advising if we are open or closed. And at the driveway entrance and on the gate into the retail section there's also signs of our hours and days of operation. Obviously clearly stating we're closed on a Tuesday. You'd be amazed at how many people come in to the retail section on Tuesdays. They see me and ask "aren't you open?". Again the self control required not to say something like "No of course we're open we just put up all the closed signs for a bit of a laugh you imbecile!"

This is more a "why would they do that" kind of thing.....

Going up to Sapporo next weekend and when we booked the flights, we couldn't book an ACTUAL flight but had say when we wanted to fly, AM-PM-Evening. (That in itself deserves to be in here as well). So we said AM, got the tickets today and it's for the 6.15am flight.....which is fine other than there is no way to get to the airport by public transport at that time!! Why would you run a flight at a time when there is no public transport access??!! Why can't we just book the bloody flight we want at the time of booking??!!
