blockhead 0
I went to England a few years ago and I really did like the pubs and beer out there. Good stuff, local specials on tap.
@tokyo 14
I like beer. But I had way too much of it last night and I am paying the price for that right now.
RobBright 35
I went to England a few years ago and I really did like the pubs and beer out there. Good stuff, local specials on tap. That's one of the best things about a pub. If you don't like one beer, then there are plenty of others to have.
7-11 2
Yeah here is it often a case of "Kirin" (insert other major name) or.... er, whiskey.
IIIII 2
Another vote for Ebisu. Always have a few in the fridge.
NoFakie 45
Suntory Royal Bitter for me at the moment. Full bodied and pretty good considering its the regular Japanese price.
cal 6
They're on dangerous ground there calling one "bitter"! Is it like a "bitter" the brits do?
Metabo Oyaji 71
So Suntory has announced they have stopped making happoshu. Now will make only actual beer, and that "third type of vaguely beer-like substance."
big-will 7
Really, interesting. What is that third type actually called?!?
Metabo Oyaji 71
Really, interesting. What is that third type actually called?!? The newspaper caled it "第3のビール." Not sure what the legal name is.
KlingKlang 1
I had some of that last weekend. It was possibly the worst tasting 'beer like drink' I have ever had. It had Asahi on the can as well. It was bloody awful. Can't imagine people buying and drinking that stuff regularly.
pie-eater 207
Yes that stuff really is awful. A fair few people actually call it beer as well. Gives beer a bad name.
grungy-gonads 54
Here's what wiki says I'm actually surprised that they can use the word "beer" in there. Bloody awful the lot of them.
muikabochi 208
We should expose the absolute worst one. I don't hknow the name but it's Asahi in a green can.
@tokyo 14
If that is the one that claims to be like a diet one then it has to be the worst one I have had. It was goddam awful.
BagOfCrisps 24
Are any "diet" beers nice?
Thundercat 60
Does anyone else drink Premium Malts? Went back to it recently and it seems the taste has changed. I really liked it before but it seems like it's not as malty as it used to be... tastes quite watered down actually.
BagOfCrisps 24
Had some Grolsch for the first time in ages last night. Quite enjoyed it, I did.
fukdane 2
Haven't had Suntory Malts for a while actually. Asahi Style Free, is the horrible green can beer.
pie-eater 207
Are you sure it's not really, really delicious? I haven't had it myself, but the people on the TV ad for it seem to be really enjoying it and said it was delicious. (I have no reason to doubt them!). Their throats made those really, really, really loud gulping sounds as well.... which is of course always a sign of a delicious drink.
Metabo Oyaji 71
Does anyone else drink Premium Malts? Went back to it recently and it seems the taste has changed. I really liked it before but it seems like it's not as malty as it used to be... tastes quite watered down actually. I haven't had it in quite a while, but used to really like it. According to Wikipedia, they just did a flavor "renewal" from this year to start using "Diamond Malt," whatever that is. Could that be the culprit?
Thundercat 60
Thanks Metabo! That's probably it! It used to have that nice crisp finish to it but now tastes a lot more like every other beer. Guess I'll have to cross that one off the list. At least Ebisu Kohaku should be out soon
NoFakie 45
Amber Ebisu is lovely. I reckon the type-3 beers could be beer-flavoured chu-hai. Basically shochu or vodka mixed with a beer flavouring that isn't actually brewed.
Slippery Jim 65
Original Malts was horrible, but Premium was quite decent. Sorry to hear they've changed for the worse as it's often the only choice in Suntory-linked spots.
muikabochi 208
Never really got into Suntory. Can't quite believe it won't be much more than a month before we get our Aki Aji.
