watched that tonight.....very nice!!

Just ordered this for my oldest boy for Xmas. Don't know if it's new or been out a while but the trailer below appeals - Part gnarly snowboarding and part mountaineering. None of that wishy washy, wa

I wish I could find more Japanese snowboard vids. Our LBS doesn't stock many and they are way too expensive.

I'd like to see Car Danchi 1,2&4 and a few of the Heart films as well as other stuff, but it's impossible to find.

Have you tried thepiratebay.org?

Not really into snow porn flicks but watched The Fine Line last season. Interesting film and the girl who gets it at the end is hot!

Please please please do not download ski movies. I have a lot of friends that are seriously affected by this as they put their entire lives into skiing and hardly make anything because people download movies. I understand sometimes the movies are a bit pricey but they are worth it and if you guys knew what it took to put a movie together you would be shocked.

With that said, check out a local crew here in UT I am great friends with. It is by 4bi9 media and called "So Far So Hood" Other than that, Re:Session is really really sick. If you want some Japan pow action check out Hunting Yeti. Everyday is a Saturday is pretty good and so is In Deep (has an awesome Shane McConkey tribute)

I don't.

Actually I don't download anything illegally.

I would be interested to know if people who say don't download ski movies illegally download non-ski movies or even music. (Do you, Mitch?)

And if they do, why is it any different?

I want to make it clear I watched The Fine Line on an original DVD, though there were about 6 of us in the room at the time. If 5 had downloaded it, would that be any worse?

I sympathise with your friends but I don't think downloading is to blame. You're talking about very niche films which will never get a regular cinema audience so are never going to make much $$$. My take is they should be funded by manufacturers and resorts - the people who make money out of skiers - in the hope that the more downloads they get, the more people will be encouraged to take up the sport. Asking a very small pool of die-hard snowboarding fans to support very expensive film-making is a bad business model. The other option is to stop making slick "pro" snow movies and let the punters make their own from phone camera footage edited together on their laptops.

For me, as much as I loved the cinematography in films like That's It That's All, I do get sick of seeing the commercially funded movies. Nearly everyone of them is Backcountry kicker, rail, rail, backcountry kicker and so on.. I'd hate to think the amount of times I've seen people jib the rail down the stairs at Northstar on Tahoe, or go through the hume tunnel at W-BC.

That's sort of why I want to see some more independent (for want of a better word) films. I loved Car Danchi, because it's a bunch of guys doing what they love, and something I love too. I'll never get the money to do heli, or have snowmobiles to get far into the back country, so seeing people just enjoying themselves, telling their story is much more entertaining for me than seeing (Insert Pro here) do a 1080 off a bc kicker that he's launched off with the aid of a snowmobile with crappy rap playing over it.

I'm sure the Suisse, Germans, Austrians, French, Swedes (as well as the Japanese) must make their own snow films, with their creativity and ideas, so I want to see them.

just discovered the TGR films are available to buy as a digital download, quality of course is not as good as a DVD but it is great for putting onto an iPod etc etc.
So I picked myself up Tangerine Dream (thanks Creek Boy for the recommendation) and Under the Influence, both great ski films.
Also picked up Swift, Silent, Deep the Story of the Jackson Hole Airforce. Really great ski doco about the history of big mountain riding in North America.

sand, I tried to buy a TGR flick off of iTunes but they were only available in N. America. Where did you find it?

The only ski movies I have downloaded are ones that I already own except for Claim, and they are on my Ipod. Id rather have the DVDs of those personally.

purchase from the TGR website directly, it downloads via iTunes as though it was a podcast, but you don't buy it from iTunes. Hope that helps.

I watched some of Refresh from Level 1 productions last night. To me, level 1 have produced some of the best filmed and put together ski movies out there. They were initally low budget (not in look) which ment a high proportion of urban jibbing but it looks like they finally have some money and had some Alaska in it. The look and feel is very much still "level 1" though, its not just another TGR or Matchstich clone.

Warren Miller even done a bit of a narrating cameo. (for better or worse)

The guys over at Level 1 are awesome. Berman has done wonders with that company and they continue to impress me every year. It's crazy to see what that company has done for skiing. Couple of my friends film with them and the difference I have seen in a matter of a few years is astonishing.

What I am saying about the piracy is yes, it may be good for exposure to "share" the films with others. I say buy the film because I have embedded the choosing of my lifestyle into skiing. I am not in it to make money, and I don't think my friends are either. I say buy the movies to support the progression of what I hold dearest to my self and life choices. I have to admit skiing isn't going precisely what looks great to me, but at the same time I still love it as much as I always have so I could never complain as to what the industry has brought about.

With that said, I ask that you support my friends at Level 1 because some of them put so much heart into what they do it is amazing. One of my buddies is still a student, yet makes a LOT of money skiing. To this day he refuses to call skiing a job, and still considers it having fun. Purchasing the movie to me shows a genuine love for what is being produced. If you don't feel that way then don't buy it. Simple as that. I am just pushing fourth my ideals of what it means to love skiing, and I am nowhere near the best out there, but I will continue to support what I think is fair means of purchasing products to support what has given so much to me. Thank you biggrin
