A Marmite mystery as the price drops to £3: Cost of the spread falls by 30% leaving fans wondering why

They say you either love it or you hate it. And those who love Marmite are in for a treat because the cost of a £500g jar has mysteriously plummeted by a third to £3.00.

The cost of a large glass jar of Marmite is now 40 per cent cheaper than its recommended selling price and half the cost of a Big Squeeze plastic bottle.

It is unclear why the cost of the spread has nosedived so dramatically but some claim it is because manufacturer Unilever is trying to clear stocks of large glass jars and move production entirely to squeezy packs.

But industry experts have dismissed these claims and even manufacturer Unilever is baffled by the price drop.

A Unilever spokeswoman said its recommended retail price for a large glass jar is £5.03.

In 2010, the cost of Marmite hit the headlines as prices soared to more than £5 for a big glass jar - making it more expensive than petrol.

But now the price of the iconic jar is 40 per cent lower and half that per 100g of the squeezy bottles, so reviled by legions of loyalists.

At a cost of £3, the big jar works out at 60p per 100g, compared with the £4.78 (£1.20 per 100g) that the supermarkets are charging for a 400g Big Squeeze bottle.

A trainee with City law firm Clifford Chance faces the sack after a video has emerged of him drunk and describing his work as “f***ing people over for money”.

The unnamed man was interviewed by Oxford student newspaper Cherwell for its Shark Tales online TV programme. The video – published on Cherwell’s website on 10 May but reported for the first time on legal blogs on Friday – shows student journalist Toby Mather in the early hours of the morning “taking to the streets once again in search of drunken wisdom”.

The trainee describes himself as a “City lad”. He said: “I f***ing love the ladness. The ladness is just basically f***ing people over for money.”

Clifford Chance, an international firm based in London and part of the ‘Magic Circle’ group of the UK’s five leading law firms, is also one of the 10 largest in the world in terms of number of lawyers and revenues. According to The Lawyer, it had total revenues in 2012/13 of £1.27 billion and profits per equity partner of £1 million.

Having perhaps realised his error, the Clifford Chance trainee seems to think better of his remarks and states to the Cherwell interviewer: “I refuse my consent for this to go on the internet and I will sue you if it goes on.”

Revealed: E coli, poisonous bacteria and POO found lurking at bottom of women's handbags

Deadly E coli, poisonous bacteria and traces of excrement are among the horrors that have been found lurking at the bottom of women’s handbags.

The grim findings were made by researchers after studying swabs of the insides of handbags, laptop and gym holdalls across the UK.

Other toxic terrors at the bottom of bags included faecal streptococcus, which can cause meningitis, and pseudomonas, a common hospital infection.

Experts blame poor personal hygiene for the rise in bag bugs. Of those quizzed, one in three women admitted they never cleaned their handbag.

Many admitted they use them to carry shoes, dirty underwear and snotty tissues on a daily basis.

Worryingly, one in five said they would happily chew a piece of gum they found loose in the bottom of their holdall, unaware of the hygiene horrors.

The swab tests were carried out on thousands of volunteers’ handbags by Mentos Pure Fresh Gum.

Claire Powley, from Mentos, said: “Our results are shocking, particularly as so many of us wouldn’t think twice about eating loose gum found in the bottom of our bag, completely unaware to the harmful bacteria we are putting into our mouths.”

Last week, scientists revealed most holy water at places of worship contains harmful bacteria and should come with health warnings.

Saving the environment and reusing shopping bags also comes with its own risks, experts have said.

Cross-contamination builds up in bags used over and over again and increases the chances of bringing home unwanted health risks.

Health experts advise replacing shopping bags every six months.

I can imagine there being similarly grim findings in lots of places!

A Japanese court has jailed a man for slipping corrosive poison into the shoes of a colleague he was stalking, causing her to have the tips of her toes amputated, officials and media reports say.

Tatsujiro Fukasawa, 41, was handed a seven-year sentence for assault, a court official confirmed on Friday. He poured the acid into the woman's shoes late last year after she turned down his romantic overtures, media reports said.

"This was a vicious crime because he used a chemical that can kill people," said Judge Takafumi Miyamoto of the Shizuoka District Court, Jiji Press news agency said.

Hydrofluoric acid - which Fukasawa obtained from the laboratory where he and his victim worked - can result in death if absorbed through skin and into the bloodstream.

The victim went to hospital complaining of pain and developed gangrene in one foot, forcing her to have the ends of her toes amputated, reports said.

Miley Cyrus Cries Singing ‘Wrecking Ball’ After Liam Hemsworth Split

crying-i-heart-radio-performance-getty-lead.jpg?w=600

Miley had to make herself cry for the ‘Wrecking Ball’ music video, but when she took the stage for the first time since breaking up with Liam, the tears were 100% all-natural. Watch the gut-wrenching performance below!

HollywoodLife.com told you exclusively that Miley Cyrus used her relationship struggles with Liam Hemsworth to drum up some tears in her music video for “Wrecking Ball.” So when she performed the song for the first time since breaking up with him at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nev. on Sept. 21, so many emotions came flooding out of Miley and she broke down in — very real — tears.

Miley’s set at the iHeartRadio Music Festival at the MGM Grand was progressing as it usually does, with Miley in a suggestive outfit getting extremely raunchy on stage and yes, twerking with dwarves. But the mood of the concert changed completely when it came time for Miley to sing “Wrecking Ball.”

The emotionally-charged song that clearly seems to be about losing Liam obviously now has even more meaning than when Miley first sang it. It’s one thing to sing about the fear of losing the love of your life; it’s a totally different thing to sing about actually losing him.

And the heart-wrenching circumstances became apparent almost immediately — Miley sang her heart out, wailing on every note like her life depended on it. And by the end of the song, Miley had to just release all of that built-up emotion by crying. As the crowd cheered her on, Miley dabbed her eyes and wiped off her running mascara.

Miley Cyrus ‘Putting Up A Good Front’

Miley’s concert was the perfect symbolization of how she’s coping since breaking up with Liam. Most times she is able to put up a strong front and just keep on twerking, but there have been times when she gets vulnerable.

“Miley’s putting up a good front and trying to play it off like she doesn’t care but she’s really f’ed up over this,” another source told HollywoodLife.com exclusively.

Her shaky emotional state was on full display on Sept. 21, and we’re sure performing “Wrecking Ball” again actually let her get some things out and start the process of moving on.

A former women's prison in South Africa which once held Winnie Mandela is now home to a 12m-deep screaming vagina.

Visitors are invited to walk through the artwork, by 30-year-old artist Reshma Chhiba, in a reaction against the former symbol of oppression.

As they do, the scarlet walls ring out with screams and laughter. The "yoni" - the Sanskrit word for vulva, or vagina - is skirted by acrylic wool imitation pubic hair over a tongue-like sponge walkway.

Chhiba said: "It's a screaming vagina within a space that once contained women and stifled women. It's revolting against this space... mocking this space, by laughing at it."

The prison, in the central Johannesburg area of Braamfontein, dates back to 1892, and its Womens' Prison held Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in 1958, when she was imprisoned for protesting against apartheid segregation, and again in 1976.

The artist said the work also opposes deeply entrenched patriarchal systems, and taboos around the vagina.
