pie-eater 207
What is 'memsahib'?
soubriquet 0
Ahh. It's from colonial India English, meaning the lady boss. In this case it refers to soubriquette. Sorry to be obscure.
klingon 10
Any particular reason you use that term?
soubriquet 0
It's just a term referring to one's lady partner. It's probably seen as anachcronistic by some, but it is still used by some of us fossils. We aren't married, so I can't call her my wife. Anyway, the local TV company wanted something using water melons. Melons can't be baked into cake, so she devised that confection.

loaf of bread 0
I'm really enjoying lots of different kind of manju recently. Local shop does a lot of different kinds and they are really good. My favorite at the moment is a brown sugar/treacle-y tasting one. Mmmmmm!

muikabochi 208
A local Tesco!!! Is it big? There's one advantage of not being inaka!
Tubby Beaver 209
not big. Its not branded as Tesco, but Tesco bought over a Japanese supermarket chain and they are slowly rebrading goods in the Tesco brand. The products from home are interspersed throughout the store so its a kind of treasure hunt to find what you want, but they have large tins of beans, digestive biscuits, bourbon biscuits, custard creams, tesco pasta sauces, curry sauces, PG Tips........enough to make me excited about a trip to the supermarket! soubriquet 0
Tesco, I noticed that. They were everywhere in Thailand. Didn't know they'd made it this far east. I wonder how they will go. I know Carriefour (sp?) tried and failed.
muikabochi 208
Do they cost a fortune TB? Eg, how much do baked beans go for?
