BagOfCrisps 24
Quote: Steven Gerrard admits even the "so-called big names" in the England squad can no longer take their places for granted after their embarrassing defeat in Northern Ireland - including himself. And so it bloody well should be as well. Cheers Steven for that insight. It's pathetic, it really is I'm lost for words. In the Premiership it's just the captains that come out with the kids. In internationals, aren't the kids from the opponents country? Forgot.
2pints-mate 0
And here's me thinking the big names should be chosen by default. Seems Rio might be left out. Poor Rio. And.... Quote: David Beckham has handed the England penalty-taker job to Frank Lampard. (Daily Mirror) Thank christ for that.
scouser 4
England game on tonight Fuji 739 at 11:50pm for anyone interested. I'll try to be.
BagOfCrisps 24
Sven reckons we can win it . Fool. Did you guys watch that performance last night? Exciting wasn't it not? Just watching that game and thinking they can win the World Cup just does not =.
2pints-mate 0
Owen thinks so too >>Michael Owen says only Brazil have a stronger squad than England going into the World Cup finals. (The Sun) If they could play well together as a team, they might well be right. But they just do not seem to be able to do that, and it's hard to see them having the opportunity to gel before then
NoFakie 45
So you don't believe in the "ballcock" theory then? That England basically raise or lower their level to that of the opposition. It seems to happen in most competitive games. Looking back, we should have beaten France (Heskey/Gerrard errors) and then Portugal (Terry error*), and argubly Brazil (Seaman error) before that. On the other side, we struggled against N. Ireland and Azerbaijan (sp?). We're shite in friendlies and really shouldn't bother any more, assuming that the amount of effort going in at the moment can be termed "bother". On the other hand, if committing errors in big games is a sign of a bad team, you can only conclude that England are shite. * Though he's the current darling, it was him that gave the bloke from Spurs the free header. oblivion 5
The ballcock theory is a good excuse to use. It's very flimsy though isn't it. And I'm not sure they have the intelligence to actually do that. I would have thought most teams raised their game in important competitive matches. Anyway, they really should be goddam "raising their game" every time they go out there.
scouser 4
I tend to agree. They should put as much effort every game as if it's the World Cup Final every time they put the England shirt on - or not be in the team. Simple.
NoFakie 45
It's not an excuse. It's simply an observation of what happens. No matter how bad they are sometimes, it's been a while since they've been properly outplayed in a competitive match. The point I was responding to was whether they have a chance. If everyone else doesn't prove to be much better when they play England, you can't say England don't have a chance.
BagOfCrisps 24
I know what you're saying. But it has also been a while since they've outplayed anyone in any match. On the other hand have you seen some of the displays of other teams?
pie-eater 207
These last few games I'm just not even that interested in watching England. I never used to be like that. They're playing again tonight at Old Trafford? I might not even bother videoing it tonight.
scouser 4
Hahaha well well seems they put in one of their good performances again. I've taped it so I'll watch tonight. Perhaps no Becks is the answer?
rach 1
Drop Becks? Yeah right as if that will happen. It does sound like they got their act together this morning. Perhaps a certain Mr Rooney had a lot to do with that.
2pints-mate 0
They actually played well. They really puzzle me. Looked like a completely different team to the shite one at the weekend. Solution? Becks and Gerrard to be out perhaps. Rooney definitely in.
BagOfCrisps 24
Quote: But it has also been a while since they've outplayed anyone in any match. Trust them to almost go and do it the day after I said that. Bound to happen. I've got an idea. For my next prediction I will say they WILL WIN THE WORLD CUP. Go on England, prove me wrong. 2pints-mate 0
I'm afraid they will. Chelsea playing well I see
scouser 4
Yes they sure are. I watched that game, that second half was pretty impressive. All you need now is Crouch to have that perfect team.
rach 1
Wanting to sell there, scouser. Come on, give him a chance - he might score someday
giggsy 0
Have you been reading the stories about Chelsea on the Guardian the last few days - very interesting read it is. I think Crouch might score sometime before Christmas. I'd put 1 pound on it!
rach 1
Another footie star in alleged rape scandal. And this time it's Uniteds very own Christiano "there's only one" Ronaldo! Bit of a shock to read this morning.
scouser 4
I see Chelsea trampled on the opposition once more last night. As for Ronaldo. That rumour has been going round for a few weeks now. Feel sorry for whoever if the victim there (whether it is the lady(s) or actually him).
2pints-mate 0
Seen this scouser? "Liverpool says sorry" http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-13452176,00.html And I heard there was a prehistoric monster in that Lake. Shattered that one.

scouser 4
I can't believe we are 17 points behind Chelsea. Admittedly with a game in hand, but frigging 17 point!?! It's not funny.
