WHERE TO STAY IN SHIGA KOGEN?
thursday replied to janeytee's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Niseko, Hirafu --> Late Dec 05 and early Jan 06, about 3 blue sky days out of 7. That was my experience and no gurantee it will happen again this coming season, but I'll be there again to find out. Rusutsu --> Just as good snow, some think it's better. Huge hotel/convention centre complex. Favorite destination of pakcage tours. Imagine having breakfast with 2000 others in the same dining hall. -

the snowmobiles at Rusutsu are at the bottom of East Mountain Centre Station. They operate in the "snowmobile land", a set of trails through the trees and some wide open fileds. It's a guided tour meant to be a break from your skiing or boarding. Full details and booking from the resort hotel. -

a cabin crew friend told me the most annoying thing is people squeezing past to get to the toilet when they are serving food. I asked her why they served food that makes people go to the toilet so quickly.

It is not tough being Chinese in Japan. Though it might be if you're mainland Chinese. -

December or April?

I've done both December and April in Hokkaido. No problem with the snow there, only blizzard conditions in Dec and wet stuff in April. Quit your job/school, and do both. Also throw a trip in between, say Feb. -
A little search and paste: "There are several explanations for this. Some say during the early days of sailing every ship was always dedicated to some goddess, and as a result the ship was referred to as "she". Another theory is that the crew always thought the ship represented their mother and as a result treated it with a great deal of respect. In most Romance languages the ship is always referred to as "she" and it is quite possible that English sailors began to adopt this practice as well" But this is the better explaination: Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz put it more succinct

Cathay are OK, not had any real gripes with their food. The stuff they serve ex-HKG is freshly prepared by Skychef at the airport. So if it's sometimes disagreeable, at least it's fresh.

NP, if you want to try, then the best of luck to you. The thin fruit filled crepes with lots of cream are very popular with the younger ones. Not sure how the think ones will go down. Last season there was a kebab van which I tried but it wasn't really that good, but I hope they'll be there again this coming season just to provide something different. In the end I just had the noodles and hamburg steak for lunch and the sushi and sashimi in the evenings.

Rusutsu has snowmobiles. Not sure how they use them though. And Niseko Higashiyama has them too. Again, not sure what you can do with them aside from towing huge inflated bananas. -

Sorry, I just can't believe the naievity here. I grew up in a white country, in a town where we were the only non-white faces. This is just .... dunno, unbelievably naive. -
I think I scored about 0.54 seconds as I tested out my new helmet. Yes, it was a good buy. Didn't feel a thing as it hit the ice.
