  1. IMHO curling is most definitely a sport for 2 main reasons: 1. It has a clear cut winner (i.e. no judges impressions) 2: It is not accompanied by music. To me anything done to music is a performance not a sport. Also it seems anything done to music requires the judges to make gut call. Oh well, back to watching the short program
  2. Tosser! There's a couple of these guys with slicked back hair that think they are god's gift of everything.
  3. I'm with you #9. First season here, so not much to compare with, but having a lot of fun.
  4. snowglider: I'm debugaijin Had a bad week last week, after a good start. Added you to my mates list. We have a bet running for 2 dozen beers on this with my mates from Miyazaki. Only rule is you have to pick your own team. (Which is not a prob in your case)
  5. Anyone here in the Virtual Super 14 comp? web page
  6. farq: Any S14 is better than none, which is what I have thanks to the huge snow falls before xmas. It knocked the antenna off line and I can't get up to the roof to fix it. We're moving next month so I'm gonna put the dish outside my bedroom window so I can brush the snow off. Sub: Quote: Brumbies all the way ... -------------------- Embrace The Ugly. These go together really well.
  7. Hurricanes! Hurricanes! Time for the organized protest calls to J Sports to get better coverage.
  8. Thanks Gams, I knew you'd come to the rescue. We were brought up on gold, silver bronze only. I suppose it's Japan's way of saying, "Hey, we didn't win a medal but we ganbarimashita" Golf prize money goes way down to 20th or so I think.
  9. Weddings are the same. The most enjoyable one's are the one's with the least time between kick off and kampai. At least you can drink thru the speeches. It may be to allow some of the boys to get to the BJ club before it closes. Some J mates of mine ideal night out goes: ichijikai, nichikai, bj club, sanjikai.
  10. To get back on track, why do Japanese count coming 8th or better as some sort of prize?
  11. We get it quite a lot as we have a lot of money coming in from overseas for group tours. I thought it was only for tranactions of several million yen or more? After about 10 calls they finally worked it out and stopped calling us. Originally the said they had to report the transactions as a measure to prevent money laundering.
  12. What is with the 入賞(nyuushou) that the Japanese TV goes on about as in 8位入賞. I only thought they gave out medals at the Olympics, but do you get a certificate or something for coming 8th? Or is it like the assists they call in soccer that in any other country is called pass?
  13. Went and had a look under a log cabin yesterday. The owner has stapled polystyrene boxes (like they use at the fish markets)under the floor boards to provide insulation.
  14. C'mon boys a little more respect here. Being coached on reproduction by the imperial household agency can't be a lot of fun.
  15. What are they gonna do? Shoot her full of male hormones during the 1st trimester?
  16. Japan's system sucks. For horror stories see: CRN Website
  17. In some dialects you can add it to the end of a verb to mean "isn't it?" or "aren't you" iku-yaro - you're going, aren't you?
  18. Aha! a new business Idea!! I have everything from stubborn 9 year old, 5 year old with cold and runny nose, and "I gotta pee daddy" 3 year old, thru to a scream on demand 1 year old. Rates coming soon at rent-a-screaming-kid-in-japan.com/dealing_with_officaldom.htm
  19. INDO: Yep, It's here in Hakuba, just up the road from where we are now. The owner of the Hanagoyomi Hotel went bust and the house was used as security so it got seized. Great big home with room for all the kids.
  20. I think I'm up for a gold lisence next time. I think it's only a 30min process to renew. Fingers crossed. One bit of advice is to take a kid and get them screaming. I always seem to get my own counter when it looks like I'm having a tough time with the kid (god bless their little tantrums)
  21. May not be much help but..... We run a small company here in Japan so we have company tax and indivdual tax to deal with. Company tax for us is about 30% of the profit, so the idea is to have as smaller profit as possible, and so almost everything we do, we try to get through as expenses (nights out are "entertaining clients" etc). Basically we get a ryoshusho (offical receipt) for everything. The company pays us a salary which we manipulate to get the best results. My wife draws the maximum she can while still being counted as dependent on me. Good thing is that as 1 have
  22. Actually Koizumi got asked in Parliment the other day if he felt it was appropriate to worship at a place with a "Japan was right" type attitude towards the war. Struck me as being a good question as they have really only focused on the class a war crims todate. Koizumi, of course, did the Junichiro sidestep and replied that they were seperate issues. BP: To be honest, I know little about the guy, but he just seems so smarmy. He alsos has that superior little grin going.
  23. The line down from Itoigawa is a very remote local line. They use Diesel wanman (one man) trains mostly. New Shink line is not gonna help Hakuba at all.
