  1. The waistband restricts your movement somewhat, but you notice it only when you are not skiing. A body armour w/waistband is better than without, but don't strap it on to tight. This can fixate your back muscles in such a way that your muscles cramp up and you end up with a sore stiff back the following day. This might exactly be the reason why it is leftout, because you ski a lot longer (or at least be out) than you will downhill-MTB or moto cross.
  2. So he's not wearing suits, but he can still be a "suit". Being in the leisure business you could get away with not wearing suits. Mr. Lee is not really running a skiresort. He overseeing his small but growing leisure empire. And this company is investing in their resorts probably just to get a profit when they sell it in a few years time. If the investing company would consist of avid boarders and skiers they probably wouldn't have the money/contacts to buy the resorts they bought.
  3. I drink to remember that I shouldn't drink as much as last time.
  4. http://www.snowtrex.nl/content/products/homepage_personal.aspx Sorry it is in Dutch
  5. Interesting a Japanese guy won the Sick Bird award for the sickest air of the event 23 Yuzuru Handa (Japan) SICKBIRD AWARD
  6. >> Sanno - sorry if this is a stupid question, but who is the dude on the left supposed to be, and is he the one endorsing sport? First thought you meant my avatar. Yeah I am endorsing the sport.
  7. not sure, but i think that is Khamenei the (religious) leader of Iran
  8. We do 50-50. I do the pancakes, lasagna, Indian curry and Mexican. She does the Thai curry, roti, Indonesian and orders pizza. The main problem is we both don't like to cook. So it is usually the one who gets hungry first has to cook. So it is more wholesome and haute cuisine. These days it feels like I'm doing all the cooking. Time for a change!
  9. Christmas 1989: The snow was actually good up on the glacier but there was no snow on lower altitudes. People were coming from 2 hours away just to get some snow under their feet. So half of vacationing Austria was going to this 1 tiny glacier. The lift lines were so long that if you were lucky you could do 6 runs in 1 day.
  10. ValTho! "Chalet Les Balcons de Val Thorens" 23 April. These are great apartment much, much better than the average French apartment. Off course not during Christams, but at the beginning and end of the season. My friends were there last May and they got 2 feet of fresh light powder. So you can get lucky even outside the normal season.
  11. For 24,000 Yen you can get an apartment for a week including liftticket in the French Alpes. If you go to "smaller", but still a lot bigger than most Japanese, resorts is can be even a lot cheaper. The cheapest i just saw was 48 Euros (7500 yen) for a week apartment + liftticket. But the amount snow here in Japan is just incredible.
  12. I have seen it at 2 resorts. The statement only refers to sport in general, but they use this specifically for skiing, because 1. many women who ski aren't dressed properly (according to the mullah rules) 2. many people on the skis drink alcohol (prohibited in Iran for moslems) 3. people who can afford to ski/snowboard don't like the regime in general. with this sign they say we do what is supported by the highest leader.
  13. I saw a little snow speedometer device 2 years ago at the ISPO. It was pretty cheap but haven't seen it in stores yet.
  14. What makes a democracy? - People in power who like Bush and agree with him. There are 2 ways in keeping the USA out of a country. Support Bush or have nuclear weapons.
  15. How was the performance of Sunrise? Wanted to be there, but didn't want to spread around some nasty germs.
  16. So Sunrise will carry a box of tomatoes and maoriboy a bucket of dirt. Easy to recognize!
  17. Pipe and park are post-powder season activities to me, but I enjoy it. Actually I like the pipe better than park. Rushing into the wall hoping you go high, actually barely making it to the coping. Sometimes getting some air other times too much, try to grab and rotate. Yeah there is still a lot to learn here.
  18. Hee guys I try to be there but same as Tsundaboy fighting the influenza virus. but I think I will be ready on Sunday night.
  19. With how many people do you have to share this perfect blanket of snow throughout the day? Maybe do a speedrun first and be back really soon before everyone else thrashed the snow, to enjoy more turns.
  20. Remember the Blizzard of Aahhs where Plake first jumps from under the bridge at Les Grand Montets in chamonix. Upon landing he starts cartwheeling further down and over a big cravesse. If my friend touched the snow just 1 meter earlier he would have made a dive into the belly of the glacier. Seeing this really made me think twice about skiing (off-piste) in glacier terrain. We had a guide with us. He knew what place to avoid but if you fall there is no way you can steer yourself clear of these things.
  21. The 2 reviews are actually the same, at least the links are. Or is Tyler Burden the alias of Mogski?
  22. In 1997 I passed through Colorado in the beginning of May. It was snowing lightly and I decided to drive up to A-basin to enjoy a little snow. As I was travelling from coast to coast I didn't have any gear with me except gloves. So I had to rent. I found out this was probably the only place in the States where you couldn't pay with a credit card. So Chamonix is still my highest 3700m. And making the 2700m vertical descent through the Vallee blanche is a great fun when there is plenty of snow.
  23. Got stuck in a slide once. It was scary. I jumped in a fresh deep snowpack and it started to slide and I was sucked into the snow. Luckily it stopped before I was completely swallowed by the white monster. My head and arms where still free so I could dig myself out, although it took some time. All this happened inside the resort boundaries. But rather this than sommersaulting over a cravesse Plake-style in Chamonix what I saw a friend of mine doing once.
