Funny the place I work there are some Chinese, French, German, Brits and Americans - interesting how you can notice the accent in their Japanese.

My ski trips are a 2 hours drive away so I could and do sometimes have day trips but they are tiring. I don't see much benefit in a 1 night stay either, so my besto chansu is a 3 or 4 night stay with 3 or 4 days on the slopes.

dommy4, hi there. Lots of people like Hakuba, it's one of the major ski towns here. Seriously, do a few searches on here. Do a search for "Hakuba" and you will see how popular it is. Some other names to look out for Nozawa Shiga Kogen Yuzawa etc In fact check out the links up above under town guides and you'll be starting off with a lot of info. If you look at the resort reviews, a good idea is to check out the ones with the most reviews.

I've been in Tokyo a while now (just about getting used to it) and I generally like it. Of course I'd prefer to have the good things that come with being in a big city with the best of the countryside but is there anywhere that gives you both those? You'd have to be pretty far out of Tokyo to get that, that's for sure.
