  1. ah, that nose was a bit artificial, in case you didn't know. big nosed girls are definitely off my attractiveness list.
  2. I only opened this thread because I wanted to see this little antibac/immunity arguement. I'm glad there are some that subscribe to the basic premise of evolution (snowbee and dims). I was all hyped to spew science, but I seem to have lost the desire. I'll leave you something to think about: Many antibacterial soaps claim they kill 99% or even 99.9% of bacteria. Given that a ridiculously high % of bacteria are pretty harmless, I wonder what that 0.1% of the bacteria not killed are. What a world it would be if the dangerous, disease-causing bacteria were always in the 99.9
  3. In this first post, replace the word "vegimite" with a word for something edible (like "cockroaches," "slugs," "grubs," "slimy things," etc.), and then enjoy. But I just keep a couple jars of yummy jam in my cupboards.
  4. Another disturbing comment: Apparrently, according to a doctor I know, these numbing cold in the extremities only makes things worse the next time (ie, the numb faster). This is why frostbite sucks so much, because you can never really fully recover... " title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />

The problem is having to think about practicalities when all you want to do is get home. My office was great though. They rang the local immigration office and got them to stay open late to arrange re-entry visas and three girls rang around the travel agents finding the best deal for me while I was busy ringing people back home. My boss came over to make sure I had everything I needed and let me have 3 weeks off for bereavement leave. When I got bac
  6. 16 for me. Too bad I took that day off in Niseko. I'll blame it on the hangover and sleeping in the combined danz/db/toque smell. Good thing the crazy smell was there to balance things out (I emit a plesant aroma).
  7. does anyone want to do the leg-work and find an image of this happy chicken? i went to the supa yesterday, tried to find the elusive happy sticker, and ended up buying 10 for 78 yen because I couldn't find it anywhere. but i like happy chicken stickers, and yummy eggs.
  8. crazy coincidence, db's, 'cause I just took zero 7 out of my MD player yesterday. That's some of the chillest music I've ever heard, and I'm not even an electronic aficionado. About Prodigy, I had some friends that went to see part of Prodigy at a club in Nagoya last fall...
  9. yup, i saw them workin' hard into the night to get that building open around xmas time. the niseko adventure center has some tele gear, too, as well as the sports store in kutchan whose name I seem to have forgotten. Its across the street and towards the station from the snowboard shop called boom. good luck.
  10. mmm, nikkumans. ymmmy. i've got a good pic of toque sleeping in the hanazono chalet during his 2 hour break. funny stuff.

HA! Really, though, I'm just jealous. I guess you deserved a good peak run after bailing to chase girls earlier, eh, toque?

Most people dont ski that much in blizzards so it gives you a chance to get more tracks. ] word brotha, word... 'twas in shizukuishi in iwate-ken on sunday, and it was blizzard conditions. nobody, repeat, nobody was skiing the trees (except me). i probably had 50 acres of perfectly spaced trees (perhaps 5-10 meters between trees) with maybe 30cm+ of fresh the night before, and probably 15+ that fell during the day. with this onsen afterward, the day was heaven.
  13. tonster, the place in hirafu closest to the bottom of the gondola seemed to know it's stuff. They had demo-quality skis of Seth Pistols, pocket rockets, among others. They should be able to set ya up.
  14. ah, its good to see a greater tele contingent on the boards. mittyak, snowhaus, teledude, and eventually me, when I 1.) get to be good enough to call myself a tele-er (not a novice pinner, which i am) and 2.) when I actually get the bc gear to warrent the pain and difficulty associated with learning to tele. free the heel, free the mind...er, something...
  15. snowhaus, since i'm not there anymore, and i don't need fat skis anymore, there were some great deals on last year's models at a store in kutchan. can't rememeber the name (even though i bought boots there), but if you walk down the main road from the station a couple hundred meters, its on your right. across the street and a little back towards the station from the snowboard shop (which has some backcountry ski gear) called "BOOM." happy hunting.
  16. did somebody say crazy? i like kiwis, personally. Do they grow on trees, Aussieboys?
  17. Yup, I got some new gear: 02-03 volkl v-pro's 190 (except the chick is orange, her hair is blue, the "V" is black, and the background is white) 02-03 lange banshee 105 02-03 salomon 6-12 DIN bindings (I forget the model) Yeah!
  18. I used to think the day after, but skiing while its snowing so hard your tracks get filled in after a lap is something else...I'll take that any day. There were times like that in Niseko the last couple weeks, but not many. As long as the goggles hold up, I'll take that any day.
  19. db, I'm sure you really wanna hear this, but you missed some good lines off the peak later in the week... me and toque and others will be in hakuba the last weekend this month, all should come up.
  20. Quote: Originally posted by sunrise: Fattwins, when you say 80mm underfoot, you mean width, right? (still catching up on all the jargon). yup, that's what he means. usually, skis are measured with numbers, like this: 113-83-95. This means: largest width at tip-smallest width at waist-largest width at tail (in mm). These happend to be for my new volkl v-pro`s, a great ski in my opinion.
  21. i don't know where suwa is, but i know norikura, and there's a couple of us fairly nearby. I'm in gifu city and there's another guy i know in takayama. we both tele'd a bit when we were in hokkaido during the last couple weeks. we both still alpine, too, though. i'm heading to iwate this weekend, but i'd be interested in other weekends...
  22. Heading to Iwate for the long weekend, and I wanna know where the best pow, steepest shots, and most hikable terrain is. my base will be about 20 km west of hanamaki. cheers in advance.
  23. don't know where for sure in iwate. i have a friend with a cabin just west of hanamaki, so maybe getoh, and it sounds like appi kogen is the place to be. any suggestions?
  24. Good luck with the avie training...since I just blew all my money, I might have to wait for the backcountry gear/education. I'm heading to Iwate this weekend and for sure to Hakuba the weekend of the 31st. The two weekends in between are now free, and I imagine I'll be skiing in Gifu somwheres. We should work something out and head up with Toque.
  25. yeah, db, niseko just got better, too. i just got back yesterday, and was not displeased. could score some fresh lines from morning til nightfall (and probably later if my legs weren't jelly). I heard someone say they heard from a local that this is the worst season in 30 years, despite the 100cm increase in base in the last week or so. imagine that place when its normal, eh?
