What authors you like Go Native? I've always been keen to read some science fiction but often it seems to go off on a deep end. Any recommendations for a good shallow end?

I don't understand why the yen hasn't collapsed, or at least become weaker, because of March 11th and all. Not that I have any idea about how all these things work anyway but.. -
Never been totally comfortable or understanding of it really but since I have been living in Japan, I have found the whole tipping thing pretty ridiculous and do not partake any more.

Here is an interesting speeding story. I was in the car when my good friend got pulled over. Fined something like 12,000 for doing 18 over the limit. She is a teacher. The first thing she did was phone the kyoto-sensei, deputy head, to tell him. She said it was best to do that. I thought that was a bit wild, but what she said next was even madder. She said that she was wasn't more than 20 over the limit, so she should be ok. "OK?" I asked. Apparently, if she was speeding more than 20 (or 30) over the limit, as a public worker she may well have been docked some of her salary!!

It's stuff like this that makes me feel things like cloud computing just isn't ready yet. Was Sonys security adequate?

OK this is great, it really works! The computer is MUCH cooler ever after being on all day. And it's really quiet. Good buy.

How's your state of mind right now?

Great idea snowdude. It seems to have worked. Certainly less noisy and quieter for longer than before. Good old vacuum cleaner. I had ordered a fan base thing as well so hopefully that will also go towards keeping the thing cooler. Thanks

Good idea will try that.

You mean Vaio? No, it is a Dell. The HDD doesn't seem to be on all the time, so I hope it's just an overheating/fan thing.

Does anyone here use a notebook fan cooler thingy? Recently my notebook seems to have been getting quite hot and the fan going full blast for long periods and I am thinking I need something like that. Wondering if people find that they work good.
