  1. Not that you can tell anything about riding style from those two pics, but I do definitely prefer speed to slow powder turns. I like to blast down through the pow and air from bump to bump. db defintitely knows how ride powder though. He has a very distinct style. I can always tell it is him coming while I am waiting at the bottom, no matter what he is wearing.
  2. Actually...I think it would be called "Americanization." I have only seen the first 2 episodes but I really enjoyed them. I am looking forward to seeing the rest.
  3. I took some pics of the line out the door at KFC. My friends at home will love to see those. Pretty much all Americans eat turkey for Thanksgiving, so it is less common to have it again on Christmas. More common is a Christmas ham or sometimes roast beef.
  4. Ocean - Americans, in general, don't harbor any ill views towards British. In fact, as a general population, American's dislike the French (thanks for the statue and winning that war for us) more. I think the whole anti-French thing is so lame and it does date back to even before they refused to join the "Coalition of the Willing." As for the size, hey ours is bigger than yours. Of course they are gonna build it big...that's the "American way" right? We have to show we can persevere and rise from the ashes...blah...blah. But the original WTC towers were built completely as a show cas
  5. Not Windows XP I am guessing. Sounds like a 9x kinda buggy problem. Chances are one of your sytem files got overwritten or corrupted. There are ways you can go about discovering which file, but it is considerably easier to just reinstall. Start with just reinstalling over the top of your existing install. This doesn't always solve the problem but it means you won't lose any data and all of your programs should still work. For the problem you are having it sounds like this should be okay. Let us know if that doesn't work.
  6. Need 2 to have any fun. There are loads of good record stores all over Tokyo. There are a bunch packed together in the back half of Udagawacho in Shibuya. I wish I had turntables in Japan, but they are a little big to haul around. For that matter, so are records, so I don't do too much shopping either.
  7. This is a beautiful movie. I am really surprised it isn't playing in Japan yet as the entire film revolves around living (or staying) in Japan. Sofia Coppola wonderfully directs the superb Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. This is a real movie about real relationships. Not at all a big hollywood love story. The interactions are perfectly subtle. Some of the Japanese stereotypes are a bit exaggerated, but it is well handled none the less. See this one when you get a chance for sure...especially gaijin living in Tokyo.
  8. Bwaahahaha!! http://www.kaicurry.com/gwbush/dishonestdubya.html
  9. Nozawa Onsen is the place for you. It has the feeling of a little Japanese village with a big ski resort just kinda attached, unlike some of the places that are just a quick place to take a few runs when you can sneak out of Tokyo. It is totally where I would go for a romantic getaway if I wanted to get some riding in as well. To get there you take the Nagano shinkansen all the way to Nagano-shi. (1hr45min - 7700Yen) and then take the local train to Iiyama (1 hour, cheap). I would try to arrange a place to stay before hand and they should be cool enough to come pick you up at the Iiya
  10. naaaa, I guess not. Ocean's cynicism has turned me off. To tell you the truth I was only interested in touring the palace. I don't care at all about seeing the Emperor. I didn't even know that was included.
  11. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is in fact an amazing game. By far one of the best I have played in a long time. The story is so cinematic I was quite sad when it ended. The gameplay is great too. Anyway, I highly recommend that one. Metroid - There is another gamer thread not too far back that has more talk about non snowboarding games. Do a search for "xbox."
  12. For all gifts? Seems pretty low for the "average American." Especially low if this average American has a few kids. My budget is much less however. But I am a long ways away from my family...and not the average American either.
  13. Do you get to tour the palace at all, or is it like just walk into one room, see the Emperor (not at all the part I care about) and then head out.
  14. So I was thinking of going to the Imperial Palace tomorrow. I don't know anything about it, other than it is supposed to be the only day of the year it is open to the public. Anyone know anything? Is it so crowded you have to get there at 5AM? Is it a stupid thing for a gaijin to do (by himself)? Will they throw me in the moat? Any help is appreciated (and the sooner the better since it is tomorrow).
  15. I say go for it. Feb should certainly still be good riding. It would be a damn shame if it isn't because that would mean Japan got less than 2 months of decent riding. Feb is the middle of Winter. If the gig was for the end of March I might reconsider.
  16. Great snow at Tsugaike in Hakuba. Awesome Japanese powder off course and soft groomers. The chopped up snow just off the groomers made for great fun ramp launches. I love the way that snow just disintegrates as you haul through it at high speeds.
  17. I prefer to spin on hard pack so you can grab an edge as you land. I find it more difficult to ride out a spin if it is into fluffy snow.
  18. Now only if we could get you to tell us if db liked Aomori...
