  1. It dumped a bit in Muenchen yesterday so we went boarding today to Sudelfeld. The place is 1550~800m and except for a couple of chairs it's all T-bar! No big deal for skiers, and another reason I thought about getting a splitboard. Anyways, heaps of untracked snow potential since most traffic is along the lift. Well, it was one of those one thing leads to another sort of day, and get there a bit late. Bummer it was really chewed up. I think everyone was there for that reason. The thing is.. it was really heavy snow and lots of it. The place doesn't seem to get glooming and it was bumpy. Mogul
  2. you got a scary wife gareth pardon! but I can understand that.. my girl and I want to try all the local yummy things and buy craft. I don't think they will be spending money considering the current economy. Happo-one is one of these old resorts that's been around since the Bamboo stocks and spring loaded bindings and leather mountain boots. That was my set up when I was 3. It was a big deal to climb up that mountain. Skiers were mountain climbers. They had no idea what it was going to be like in 50 years.
  3. That's skydiver talking... thursday, couldn't read the fine print of the Niseko one, but it's in memory to some old bloke who had had concern towards the safety of skiers (probably avalanch ) . Got nothing to do with getting off.
  4. Just in general sucks. So you want to complain about it but don't want to blow the whistle. in Japanese, yu-jyu-fudan... You know if some of the resorts change they can advertise themselves as " We don't lie about our snow depth" If you like that place you are doing everyone a favor. Sorry, no offense IMO cheers
  5. Snow safari in Tohoku. Big Trip. Wow! Zao has always been a must do one day, mecca sort of place. When I was in high school some guys would go and it was like.. Respect. Totally Old School. Happo-One and Okushiga is similar. Like you are lucky to have a lift there. Bliss to have an onsen after. Skiing with my folks involved mountain climbing when I was a kid. It's not like the newly developed resorts of the prince hotel group or more recent one's from the boom. And people like it that way. I would for one without the bars and noise. Nozawa is an old onsen village where people go onsen
  6. For some people, Nature is a nightmare....
  7. That's great ! Finally, the Japanese have switched on!
  8. Don't blame me I didn't start it... And I like my GARLIC in large dose..
  9. I missed this thread. Skiing since I was 3. Snowboarding my second season and absolutely loving it.
  10. +1 I remember Monty Python being aired in Japan....They had a panel of people (I think one was Ohhashi Kyosen- (jazz critic, comedian, intellectual, social commentator and worker, cum ex-politician) to discuss and explain what was funny about it.
  11. oh,oh... don't go there... everyday meat eaters and curry eaters.. Muenchen smells of cigarette, wurst (sausages) and mandeln (suger coated almonds) all mixed together...depends on what it is and who.... onsen I like it.
  12. Yeah? In the late 70's we were doing moguls with Sony walkman (tape). Had to keep them walm or it slowed down. If you were getting continuous music that was proof you were skiing well...otherwise it jumped around. iPods are great. I think it's the brain that wears it. Even in Japan while our short visit 6 months ago, there were kids who couldn't say Konnichiwa. wow...
  13. It's really good thread ... in many ways. Out of respect to snowdude, Transvestites are respected in Japanese society. A lot of them you can't even tell cos they really look like girls. When you look at traditional Japanese theatre like Kabuki, the female roll is played by men and they are the stars of the show. On the other gender, there is Takarazuka musical theatre (Takarazuka is a town near Osaka in Hyogo prefecture) and it's all girls cast. There are transvestite night clubs where young people and business people alike goes and admire them... good huh! If you are a male and you ha
  14. Mate, if you have drank that much beer sure..... The food.. The best bread in the world... People greet each other by saying "greetings to god" which is strange and not as friendly as Aussies but probably they haven't had there share of beer. Most of the time it is a very somber place. Even the dogs are well behaved. I like Bavaria, and I find that language more relaxed. The people of Tirol speak similar to Bavaria so it's good to know it. I thought all Germans speak English, not true. I think it's going to take a long time to speak with ease. I'm only beginning to understand a little.
  15. Reasoned argument? your kidding.. you finished ? Or do I have to point you to the ignore button... in your dunny
  16. Yeah, what ever JA. Just proved to me you never been to Byron, or Nimbin. Something abnormal about people who claim to be normal ... Fair suck in the sauce bottle to you.
  17. I hear you mate, and thanks again for your kind words. Yes, the kids are our future.. For me, still, Australia is a nice place to live. Otherwise I wouldn't have been there for that long. I really don't fit in anywhere. That's the conclusion I arrived at and more importantly, it doesn't matter... I miss Japan the older I get, but it's sad you can never become equals if one is a different age there. No doubt I miss the "she'll be right mate" Aussie way. But I'll miss my girl the most if I'm not with her. So I follow my bliss... and it's so much fun snowboarding with her. People come and go
  18. Who' stops them lying ? I think we can.. Just tell them you will report it on this forum. Tell them it's BAD PR. BAD BUSINESS.... I bet everyone would like to know when shite like that goes down... once again, which resort is that Yamayamayama ...
  19. Glad to hear you had a good time...Don't you reckon a soak in the Onsen after helps the bruises? Really looking forward to go there hopefully next year. We are always after accomodation with a bath when we go snowboarding. My recommendation is when in Japan it is handy to have a WC in the room if there is an Onsen, and you can do without a shower. I didn't know that shite going down at Thredbo. Must have been in the days before signing weavers for everything ... Bugger
  20. Great pics, dude. It's promising it's gonna snow for sure just a cold spell
  21. She is Bavarian...She speaks Bavarian and high-German. She's got dark hair and the colour of her eyes change from green, blue, grey blue, brown, and I swear she had been Japanese in her previous life with me. She loves Natto with raw eggs dropped into it. Now, that's fairdinkum Nippon food. And she tans easily and skin so smoooth. Lucky me
