  1. I can't see any pictures or anything, but the description kind of lines up, so my guess; Moriyama Kogen, Fukui
  2. hopefully you can find a pass that give you access to a few mountains, would be shame to be stuck on one. A whole season, wow, you'll have a bloody amazing time.
  3. When I skiied Hakuba back in '09 there was a multi resort pass available for tourists only, not locals, which was really a book of coupons which you redeem at the mountain of your choice each morning, I have a feeling though you will be out of luck for a season pass, and also i can't remember where to find the information on the tourist lift pass.
  4. i reckon you've got it - quick google search for 'nikko japan bridge' - http://www.sacred-destinations.com/japan/nikko-shinkyo-bridge.htm
  5. I learned to do both (skiing first and at a younger age) and thankfully settled on the only correct choice. skiing. but that's a different story. I think as a beginner skiing is easier, as you can stand up and slide with very little instruction. the transition from that to making slow plow turns is a relatively easy one. The beginner stages of snowboarding is awful really, it is difficult to stand, seems impossible to turn, and the slightest error sees you catching the edge and putting you right back to where you belong. On the flip side, once you are past beginner stages and can contr
  6. And here I was marveling on how well traveled you all are! Well then, I would believe this ski field to be found at Morimiyanohara - Nagano prefecture. google maps
  7. I believe i know the answer but only by being a google cheat - so I'll wait and see if someone actually knows the location...
  8. only had two onsens in my last visit to japan, one in a cheap out of the way traditional place with very mineral smelling water, then one in an expensive resort where I'm not convinced the water wasn't just heated water. The authentic experience was really great and i look forward to visiting some more come January after a long day on the slopes <-- don't do that with your little towel.
  9. I just skim read this thread front to back at work on an extended lunch (don't tell my boss) and I have to say that your commitment on keeping SJ up to date on your time in japan is superb, so many awesome photos and just looks like an all around good time! Are you planning on going back next season Mike? I'm taking the girlfriend who is a beginner (1 week on snow) to stay in The Vale, Niseko for 9 nights in January. Maybe we will hire you to help build her confidence if you are teaching there again!? I look forward to searching for some of the lines you've shown in here, reading this
  10. ordered blu-ray of - 'we' a collection of individuals last week, waiting eagerly to watch it really want to see 'attack of la nina', but can't seem to find a copy anywhere local and trying to support the industry..
  11. all booked! Niseko from the 19th -29th of January '13. Staying at The Vale. To say I'm excited is an understatement, it's been 4 years since I'd skiied Japan (which was Hakuba)
  12. preliminary booking for mid-late January in Niseko. for 7 - 10 nights. it's not finalised yet so might change, hopefully book it tonight! first time in Niseko, haven't been to Japan since Hakuba in 08 and I am pumped! long time since i've been on this forum (maybe 3-4 years) great to see some of the same regulars still around the forums. just the girl and I, she's a beginner skier, hopefully she can pick it up quickly...
  13. it is on yahoo news. it's a shame but it's nice to have closure, 2 months is a long time for his friends and family to not know what happened.
  14. yeah i often wondered about that myself whilst riding the topmost chairlifts on happo.
  15. hey that you tube vid snowpopow jnyx posted, that video looks intense, for those interested this is the website for that movie with alot of other awesome videos, making ofs, trailers etc. http://www.tkbfilms.com/skipopowT2.html I'm gonna be buying it on blu-ray when its released two unreal ski clips right there.
  16. wow who is that skier he was awesome! enjoyed that lots. great cinematography
  17. wow mike, impressive. I can't beleive niseko just keeps copping white and fluffy day in day out, whereas the rest of japan seems to be getting warm days and rain. I'm especially liking the photos showing the underside of those armada skis! I like to think (wishfully) thats what I look like coming through the pow haha.
  18. I think at this time, frustratingly noone will be able to answer those questions. 'm really thinking of this guy and his friends and family, it must be such a horrible thing to go through. There is an article on this thismorning in yahoo news. best of luck with the search
  19. HA yes with a few more rocks poking through it may look more like what it did when I left.
  20. Very nice indeed, how long ago was this? that second last photo, is that taken from happo one looking over to Hakuba 47 in the background? Or am I totally wrong here? If it is where i am thinking of, I watched someone do almost exactly those lines about 3-4 weeks ago
  21. the guy across the road ploughed out the lander, he wasnt to impressed by it, but i'd imagine the kicker will still be there, and a beauty it was aswell. the emu place is very small but very very good meals. If you go in in the day and book you will get to eat at tables where you take your shoes off and sit on the floor with a hot plate in the centre to fry some things yourself. yeah fireworks are legal, although that shop didn't have anything that was big enough for my liking, the best we found were these rocket things that came in packs of 5 or 6. Oh yes also the onsen experie
